Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Edvin Rinne! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Santiago Palmer! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.

Palmer connects with a crisp jab. Rinne throws a lazy right hand but Palmer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Palmer rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rinne makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Rinne slips a jab from Palmer. Rinne displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Palmer throws out the jab. Rinne throwing a counter right hand but Palmer manages to avoid it. Palmer with a jab. The fighters circle momentarily. Palmer darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Palmer has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Rinne misses with a few strikes there.
Jab from Palmer. Palmer throws a body punch but Rinne moves out of range. Palmer thows a left - swing and a miss! Palmer feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Rinnes jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Nice uppercut lands for Palmer. That snapped Rinne's head back.
Rinne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Rinne connects with a high kick. Palmer moves away from the strike by Rinne. Palmer takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

and Palmer counters with a nice uppercut. Rinne slips a jab from Palmer. Palmer throws a jab but it's blocked by Rinne. Rinne throws a counter high kick but Palmer was just alert enough to avoid it.
Palmer moves into the clinch. Rinne works on Palmer's body with a couple of short punches. A shot in the inside from Rinne. Rinne lands a hook that snaps the head of Palmer backwards. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Rinne is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. A bit of stalling here from Palmer.
A head punch on the inside from Rinne fails to land. Rinne blocks a punch to the side of the head.
I was talking to Rinne's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Santiago Palmer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A slow jab from Palmer misses its intended target. Rinne tries a head kick but it misses.
Rinne shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Palmer as he jumps to the side. Palmer tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rinne swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rinne fails to land with a series of punches.
Rinne swats away the attempt to clinch by Palmer. Rinne lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Rinne's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Palmer connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Rinne scrambles back to his feet. Rinne comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Palmer has his takedown stuffed and Rinne counters with a flying knee. Nice. Palmer throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rinne on the side of the head.

Rinne is looking to counter punch. Jab from Rinne. Palmer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Palmer wants to clinch. Rinne moves away from the strike by Palmer. and Rinne counters with a straight right hand. Palmer wants to clinch up but Rinne keeps it at a distance. Rinne swings widly with a right hand
and Palmer counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Rinne goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Rinne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Rinne is looking to counter punch. Palmer scores with a body shot.

Palmer throws a big shot that misses. Palmer throws a jab when Rinne was well out of range. Rinne throws a counter high kick but Palmer was just alert enough to avoid it. Rinne throws a big shot that misses. Rinne lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Palmer lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Rinne steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Palmer. Rinne swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Rinne scores with a crisp jab that stopped Palmer in his tracks. Rinne misses with an uppercut. Palmer saw that one coming. Palmer is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Rinne had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. Palmer tries to clinch but Rinne moves out of range. Rinne is looking to counter punch. A cross from Palmer lands. Palmer throws out a powerful jab. Rinne is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Palmer misses with a straight left. Rinne tries to clinch there but Palmer circles away.
Palmer tries to clinch but fails miserably letting Rinne counter with a right hand. Palmer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Santiago Palmer will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Palmer gets a takedown into half guard. Palmer lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Rinne regains full guard. Nicely done. Palmer looking to sit in guard and control but Rinne gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Palmer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Rinne tries to roll over but Palmer keeps him under control. Palmer controlling the action here.

Rinne utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Palmer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rinne swivels though and keeps the full guard. Palmer trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Rinne wants to pass the guard but Palmer is keeping the position. Rinne wants to control from the top but Palmer keeps moving. Palmer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rinne's guard.
Palmer trying to control but Rinne is working from the bottom. Rinne can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Palmer controls the pace. Palmer wants to control from the top but Rinne keeps moving.

Rinne wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Rinne is looking to sweep but instead, Palmer has passed into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rinne trying to control here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Santiago Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Palmer stuns Rinne with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Palmer uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Rinne has time to react.

Rinne digs a good body shot into Palmer's ribs. Palmer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rinne. Palmer throws a body punch but Rinne moves out of range. Santiago Palmer seems to be getting the better of the standup. Palmer ducks under a wild hook from Rinne. Palmer tries to clinch but Rinne is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palmer gets a clinch. Palmer swings wildly with an uppercut but Rinne uses good head movement to avoid it. Palmer lands a hook to the side of the head. Palmer blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Rinne has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Palmer is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Rinne crunches a lovely knee into Palmer's ribcage. Rinne wants to take the fight to the mat but Palmer manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Palmer misses with the head strike.
Rinne has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Palmer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Edvin Rinne. That's going to take a lot out of him. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Palmer creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Rinne lands with a short head shot on the inside. Palmer drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Rinne gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Rinne has his foot on Palmer's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Palmer works his way back into a safe position though.

Palmer has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rinne is working away from the top position though. Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rinne is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Palmer doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rinne. Palmer tries to roll over but Rinne keeps him under control. Edvin Rinne has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Palmer wants to get back to his feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Rinne throwing shots but Palmer is blocking nicely. Palmer moves into full guard.
Palmer seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Edvin Rinne. Well Palmer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. De Villefort with a flurry of punches that miss. De Villefort has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Fenix takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. De Jager fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. A lazy left from De Jager finds it's target.

Baez tries to bum rush Sioldster with a series of wild strikes but Sioldster uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Sandman forces Kelly back against the cage and clinches. Kelly tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sandman's elbow. Kelly lands a nice shot to the body. Sandman is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kelly gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Kelly doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sandman wants to take the fight to the mat but Kelly manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Kelly stops a takedown attempt from Sandman.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Sandman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kelly is pressed up against the cage. Sandman has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Kelly down to the mat. Kelly avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Sandman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
The fighters are working up against the cage. Kelly manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage. Kelly gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sandman.

I was talking to Sandman's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Sandman is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Kelly is defending well.

Kelly wants to get back to his feet but Sandman is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Sandman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Sandman with a flurry of punches that miss. Sandman is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Sandman missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Sandman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. and Sandman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Sandman chips away with some ground and pound. Sandman lands a couple of digs.

Kelly throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sandman takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Kelly displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Sandman throws out the jab. Sandman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kelly tries to avoid it but Sandman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kelly to the ground. Kelly escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for The Sandman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kelly scores with a leg kick.

This has been an exciting period of action! Kelly controls the position. My spies in The Axis of Evil inform me that Kelly has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Sandman is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Sandman's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Gerry Kelly is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chimaera looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Chimaera throws a nice inside leg kick. The Chimaera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chimaera throws out a leg kick but Traylor moves out of range and Chimaera only half commits. Chimaera really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Traylor wants to clinch up but Chimaera keeps it at a distance. Chimaera misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Chimaera feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Traylor's calf. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that The Chimaera will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
