Funk has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Khaliev lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Funk throws the left hand but Khaliev avoids the punch easily.

A quick step to the side and Funk tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Khaliev shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Funk's guard.

Funk has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Khaliev to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Funk is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Khaliev pulls down on the head and he's put Funk to sleep! This one is all over!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Willis has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Fist lands hard precision jab right on the jaw that stiffens Man up and sends him tumbling to the mat! The ref grabs Fist from behind before he can pounce. Some folks in the crowd didn't like that stoppage, but I saw Man's eyes roll way back in his head, he was done.
