Wilshere closes the distance and clinches up with Quinn, looking for a takedown. Wilshere pushes Quinn against the cage but Quinn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
The fight stays on the outside here - Quinn looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Wilshere shoots in looking for a takedown. Quinn tries to sprawl out of it but Wilshere keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Quinn manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Quinn tries to counter by closing the distance.

As Wilshere backs off Quinn throws a huge counter combo but Wilshere manages to avoid it all.

Wilshere ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Wilshere no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dantas throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Dantas misses with a few strikes there.
Dantas throws a poor cross that misses

and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Dantas fights it but they end up in guard.

Dantas is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Johnson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dantas's guard.
Johnson wants to pass the guard but Dantas is defending well.

Dantas defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Johnson.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dantas stops Johnson from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Dantas can't escape the position.

Johnson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Johnson has control of Dantas's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Dantas regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Dantas is in all sorts of trouble here.

Johnson swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Dantas is now in Johnson's guard. A big mistake from Johnson there, giving up the dominant position!
Dantas wants to get up but he can't break Johnson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dantas's guard.


Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Dantas working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Johnson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Johnson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Dantas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Johnson drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dantas manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Johnson has Dantas in his guard.

Johnson is adopting a defensive guard.
Johnson wants to hit a switch here but Dantas passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Johnson there!

Dantas tries to get up but Johnson was controlling his body and he's reversed into guard.

Dantas working for a triangle but Johnson defends it easily.
Dantas wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it.
Johnson stands and throws Dantas's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Johnson is working to tighten his grip on Dantas's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Dantas has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Johnson is really squeezing tight and eventually Dantas passes out! Johnson breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Derrick Johnson!
Derrick Johnson took to the mic after the fight and begged the organizational hierarchy for a shot at the title.
