The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stern moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Stern is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Pechorin. Stern looks to throw the jab but Pechorin is out of range. Pechorin looks for the body kick but Stern saw that one coming. Stern throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Stern swings away with a leg kick that misses. Pechorin throws the kick towards the body but Stern avoids it. Stern stuns Pechorin with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Pechorin throws a jab but it's blocked by Stern. Pechorin tries to clinch but Stern is having none of it. Pechorin throws a hook to the side of Stern's head but Stern sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Nice jab there from Stern. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Stern lands with a kick to the ribs.
Pechorin misses with a leg kick letting Stern counter with a right hand. Stern lunges at Pechorin with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Pechorin's hand. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A decent looking body kick lands there for Pechorin. Pechorin throws a combination that misses and Stern counters with an inside leg kick.

Stern is looking to slow Pechorin down with leg kicks. Stern misses with a low kick. Stern throws a low kick but Pechorin avoids it. Stern lands a nice shot to the body.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Stern's corner calls for a 1-2. Stern obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Pechorin misses with a looping left. It seemed like Stern was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Stern has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pechorin avoids a low kick by using good footwork. A big right from Pechorin misses. Stern wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Stern digs a good hook to Pechorin's body.
Pechorin takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Stern scores with a crisp jab that stopped Pechorin in his tracks. Pechorin lands with a right hand. Pechorin keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Pechorin stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Stern. Pechorin tries to clinch up. Stern stuns Pechorin with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Pechorin misses with a jab, cross combination.

That's three minutes gone in the round. A kick lands to the mid section there for Pechorin. Stern throws a jab when Pechorin was well out of range. It looked like Pechorin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Pechorin misses with a wild combination.
Stern throws out a counter right but Pechorin avoids it with no problem. Stern jabbing away but nothing is landing. Pechorin misses with an uppercut
and Stern counters with a stiff right hand. Stern works the jab nicely. Pechorin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stern paws at him with a jab and circles away. Stern pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Nice defenses there by Pechorin. Stern lands a nice hook to Pechorin's body. Pechorin takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Stern connects with the punch. Pechorin thows a body kick. Stern tries to catch it but that hurt him. Pechorin scores with a punch to the head. Stern is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Pechorin had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pechorin's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Stern connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Pechorin scrambles back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pechorin throws a push kick but Stern slaps the foot to one side. Stern takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Pechorin misses with an uppercut. Stern saw that one coming. Stern throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Pechorin stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Pechorin jabs at Stern's body. Pechorin doesn't manage to clinch there - Stern circles away.
Stern misses with a leg kick and Pechorin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Stern throws a body punch but Pechorin moves out of range. And Pechorin counters with a quick kick to the body but Stern blocks it. Stern thows a left - swing and a miss! Pechorin avoids the head kick by Stern.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Pechorin throws a predictable looking body shot
and Stern counters with a good low kick that Pechorin was not able to check. Stern misses the shot to the body. Stern throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Pechorin swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Pechorin explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dick Stern dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

It looks like Dick Stern has been cut. Stern feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Pechorins jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Pechorin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Nice body punch from Stern. Stern throws a big shot that misses. Stern misses with a hook. Pechorin ducked under it nicely. It looked like Pechorin was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Stern. Stern moves out of range as Pechorin strikes. Pechorin misses with a wild body shot. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pechorin throws a nice inside leg kick. Pechorin throws a quick counter head kick but Stern was just out of range. Jab, jab by Stern - just one landing. Stern uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Pechorin. Stern throws a poor cross that misses
and Pechorin cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Stern scores with a push kick. Stern dips to his left and cracks Pechorin with an uppercut! Pechorin lands a jab to the head.
Jab from Stern. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Stern, as that shot connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A swing and a miss from Pechorin. Stern misses with a leg kick. Pechorin defending well as Stern loads up on a big left hand. Pechorin swings for the body but Stern moves out of range.

Stern throws a big shot that misses. Pechorin tries to clinch up and Stern counters with a stiff right hand. Pechorin misses with an uppercut. Stern saw that one coming. A punch lands to the side of Pechorin 's head but he takes it in his stride. Pechorin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Oh Pechorin is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Pechorin looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. A solid body kick from Pechorin. Pechorin seems to have got his legs back now. Stern ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Stern has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Pechorin.

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Pechorin might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. Pechorin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Stern manages to avoid it. Stern throws out a counter right but Pechorin avoids it with no problem. Stern throws a lazy right hand but Pechorin sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Pechorin lands with a shot to the body. Stern looks to land a right hand but Pechorin moved out of range. Stern misses with a hook. Pechorin lands a body shot.

Stern misses with a wild body shot. Pechorin was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Stern connects with a body shot. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pechorin. Pechorin checks the leg kick nicely there.

Ed Skank seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oflifanov is trying hard to land a takedown here. Skank sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. We've been hearing reports that Oflifanov has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Skank scores with the left hand. Shot throws out a loose jab but Jasta uses good head movement to avoid it. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Shot throws a low kick but Jasta moves out of range easily. Jasta throws a lazy uppercut
and Shot cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. A decent looking cross lands there for Shot. Shot lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Jasta just misses with a punch to the body.
Shot wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Shot slips under a jab. A little jabbing left from Shot on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Jasta avoids the head kick by Shot.

A big left from Shot misses. Jasta fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Shot manages to avoid it. Jasta checks a leg kick. Shot throws a series of punches but Jasta avoids them all with ease. Jasta is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. A telegraphed right hand from Shot misses the target. A little feinted left hand from Jasta on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Jasta walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Shot looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Shot is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

This has been an exciting period of action! Jasta manages to regain half guard. Good work. Shot wants to take a breather but Jasta is having none of it. Jasta controlling the position well. Shot throwing shots but Jasta is blocking nicely. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shot looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Shot wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jasta keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shot tries to pass to full mount but Jasta defends it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jasta gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Jasta swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Jasta throws the left hand but Shot avoids the punch easily. A little jabbing left from Shot on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Jasta rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

Jasta pulls Shot in to control the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shot looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Jasta finish him?

I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Carter wants to land a leg kick but Laine is out of range. Carter throws a combination that misses and Laine counters with a stiff right hand. Laine throws a hook to the side of Carter's head but Carter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Laine misses with a looping right. Laine with a jab. Laine looks to land a left hand but Carter moved out of range nicely. Carter throws a big counter combination but Laine scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Laine loads up on a big right hand but Carter slips the punch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Carter staying out of range there. Carter tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Laine cranks the arm and Carter screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Carter, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Pako Laine! Pako Laine is the new featherweight champion! A very excited looking Pako Laine rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
