Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dimitrious Cruz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Noah Jones! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cruz gets caught flat footed, as Jones shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Jones is looking to work some ground and pound but Cruz has wrist control. Cruz wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment. Cruz keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass. Jones cracks Cruz with a solid left hand. Cruz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Jones is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Cruz looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Cruz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Jones works over Cruz with some ground and pound from guard. Jones postures up and lands a big shot to Cruz's brow. Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Cruz. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Cruz controls Jones momentarily but Jones frees himself. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cruz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Cruz lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Cruz pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones tries to roll over but Cruz keeps him under control. Cruz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working. Cruz passes the guard and advances to mount! Cruz prevents Jones from getting the reversal. Cruz wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cruz trying to control but Jones is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Cruz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Cruz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape. Jones stops Cruz from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better. Jones can't escape the position.
Cruz tries to control but Jones wriggling away. Jones sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cruz in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Jones tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cruz!
