Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Remo Bryan ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paulie Pennino! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bryan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Pennino as he avoids it easily. Bryan ducks under a wild hook from Pennino. Remo Bryan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Pennino has managed to clinch.
Pennino wants the takedown. Bryan is fighting it off but Pennino persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Bryan 's guard against the cage. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Pennino's corner. There ya go! There ya go! There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bryan is on top in guard.
Bryan wants to pass the guard but Pennino is keeping the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pennino tries to land a sweep but no joy. Bryan passes Pennino's left leg - he's now in half guard. Pennino tries to get to full guard but Bryan has control of the leg. Bryan is keen to just control but Pennino is a slippery customer. Pennino is concentrating on defense, preventing Bryan from advancing position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bryan is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Pennino has managed to free his arm - good work. Bryan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Pennino is trying to get back to full guard. Pennino preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Pennino works his way to full guard. Good work. Bryan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pennino is keeping the position for now. Pennino looking for a sweep. Not yet Pennino, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Pennino with a couple of shots from the bottom there - nothing Bryan can't handle though.

Pennino desperately trying to maintain half guard. Bryan trying to control the action but Pennino is working from the bottom. Bryan is working for a submission of some sort.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bryan is looking to advance position but Pennino won't allow it. Bryan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pennino defends it well. Bryan will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bryan wants to pass to mount but Pennino is defending the position. Bryan is trying to control. Pennino wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Bryan is pressing down on Pennino's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pennino is holding on for now. Pennino keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Bryan moves out of range of the strikes. Bryan shoots in for a takedown but Pennino shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. No luck for Bryan with that takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Remo Bryan . That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice sprawl there from Pennino as Bryan shoots in. Pennino is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Bryan with a body shot. Pennino clinches with his opponent.
Bryan is trying to pull guard but Pennino turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Bryan jumps guard but Pennino stands there with Bryan around his waist. Bryan gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Bryan ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bryan no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Bryan has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Pennino has passed into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. It looks like Pennino might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Paulie Pennino will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Pennino enables Bryan to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pennino manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bryan trying to control but Pennino is working from the bottom. Bryan looking to pass the guard. Bryan trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Pennino manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bryan looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Pennino puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Pennino scoring with strikes to the body and head. Pennino working the head and body with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bryan is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Pennino pulls his head out easily. Bryan moves into full guard.
Pennino is working Bryan over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Pennino must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Bryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Pennino is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Bryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Bryan being controlled here, momentarily. Bryan wants to stand up but Pennino is controlling him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Bryan keeping moving, preventing Pennino from controlling successfully. Bryan looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pennino is one step ahead there. Bryan can't keep his opponent in guard - Pennino advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Bryan wants to get back to full guard. Pennino moves into full mount! Bryan won't be happy about that!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bryan is looking to improve his position but Pennino isn't that keen on the idea. Pennino takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Pennino raining down hammerfists from mount. Pennino connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Pennino working away from the top, dropping strikes. Bryan tries to get back to half guard but can't. Bryan 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Bryan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Bryan gets back to full guard.
Bryan bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pennino's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pennino controlling Bryan 's posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paulie Pennino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Nice sprawl there from Pennino as Bryan shoots in. Pennino fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Bryan checks it well. Bryan fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pennino avoids it really well and circles away. Pennino throws a body shot but no joy. Pennino throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bryan sees it coming and avoids it easily. Pennino has Bryan up against the cage in a clinch.

Pennino passes to full mount! Bryan bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Pennino keeping moving, preventing Bryan from controlling successfully. Pennino has his hands on Bryan 's head, controlling the position. Bryan is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pennino is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pennino has escaped and now he's on top! Bryan looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Pennino is just content to waste time from the top position. Bryan takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Pennino content to stall in guard here. Bryan looking for a sweep. Not yet Bryan , not yet. Bryan manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pennino manages to get himself to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Bryan pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Pennino is keeping the position for now. Remo Bryan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
