3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Damen Mayer! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mayer takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Wall closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mayer did well to prevent Wall getting side control. Wall seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Mayer taking some punishment here, with Wall in his half guard. Wall working Mayer over with strikes. Mayer gets back to full guard.

Mayer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Mayer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wall defends it easily. Mayer throws his legs up looking for a submission but Wall uses it to pass to side control.
Wall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Mayer is positioning himself to get back to half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wall connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Mayer some visible discomfort.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mayer can do anything to dispel that myth. Mayer is trying to work for a sweep but Wall has mounted him!

Paul Wall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mayer is looking to improve his position but Wall isn't that keen on the idea. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Wall cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

That's two minutes gone in the round. Mayer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wall dives on top into guard. Wall wants to control from the top but Mayer keeps moving. Mayer looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wall passes into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mayer is trying to escape the position but Wall is controlling the position. Wall wants to control but Mayer is keeping him busy.

Mayer trying to get back to full guard but Wall takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Wall with good strikes from the mount here! Wall prevents Mayer from getting the reversal. Mayer sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Wall slips a nice elbow through Mayer's hands, connecting with Mayer's forehead. Wall seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mayer does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Mayer is trying to work for a sweep but Wall has mounted him! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mayer gets back to half guard. Wall working over Mayer with some ground and pound. Mayer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wall lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Mayer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wall pulls his head out easily.
