1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Maciej Szmyd! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Szmyd doesn't manage to clinch there - Racken circles away.
Szmyd wants to clinch. Racken throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Szmyd shoots in for a takedown but Racken shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Jamie Racken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Szmyd chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Right on cue, Racken cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jamie Racken. Szmyd keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Racken shoots for a double leg takedown but Szmyd sprawls well. He's pushed Racken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Racken doesn't succeed with the takedown and Szmyd counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Racken is lucky that one didn't land flush. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jamie Racken. That's going to take a lot out of him. Racken looks to land a body kick but Szmyd moved away. Racken closes the distance and clinches. Szmyd is working for takedown but Racken is calmly controlling the position for now. Racken has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Szmyd uses from the top position. Szmyd avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Szmyd leaves Racken with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Szmyd closes this distance looking for a takedown but Racken circles away. Racken lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Szmyd backs up against the cage.

Racken manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Szmyd swings for the body but Racken moves out of range.

No, Cassel has managed to free his arm - good work. Smith is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Cassel sees it coming and defends easily. Cassel is not content to let Smith control the position. Cassel is trying to get back to full guard. Smith prevents Cassel from standing back up.

Cassel clobbers Smith with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Cassel throws a sloppy head kick and Smith moves out of range easily. Jab from Cassel. He has the arm isolated but Cassel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Smith looking to control but instead Cassel has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from JJ lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and tapout has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from tapout and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Nice takedown defense from JJ. No joy for tapout on that attempt. JJ shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. tapout is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. tapout can't escape the position.

DeMarco Mariano showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Luchenko tries to land a sweep but no joy. Luchenko is working an open guard so Mariano takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Mariano rushes Luchenko and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mariano goes for a takedown attempt but Luchenko pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Thomas lands a glancing blow to the side of Umberto's head. Thomas lands with a good body shot. Thomas has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Thomas drops Umberto with a beautiful combination! Umberto stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Thomas is looking for the KO!
Umberto is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Thomas cracks Umberto with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Umberto tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Thomas pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Umberto is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hammersmith darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Hero wants to improve his position but Hammersmith is controlling well.
Hammersmith is thwarting Hero's attempts to control the position. Hammersmith seems to be looking for submissions.
Hero is looking for a sweep. Hammersmith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hammersmith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hero looks like he's trying to stand up.
Hammersmith wants to work for an arm triangle but Hero is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hammersmith is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hero!

This isn't 1993 though, so Hero shrugs it off. Hammersmith prevents Hero from getting the reversal. Hammersmith is working for a guillotine from mount but Hero frees his head quite easily.

Hero is working hard here to advance position. Hero tries to buck Hammersmith off but he can't manage it. Hero tries to hold on but Hammersmith postures up. Hammersmith is working for a guillotine from mount but Hero frees his head quite easily.

This isn't 1993 though, so Hero shrugs it off. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hammersmith looks gassed!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hero tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hero throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Hammersmith is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Hero can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Hammersmith swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Hero is now in Hammersmith's guard. A big mistake from Hammersmith there, giving up the dominant position! Hero lands a couple of elbows. Hammersmith has a closed guard, preventing Hero from standing up. Hammersmith controls Hero momentarily but Hero frees himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hero has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Hammersmith is proving hard to escape from. Hero postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hammersmith is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Kyle Hammersmith dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hero lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Hero misses with a low kick.
Hero cracks Hammersmith with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Hero lands with a right and another and another! Hammersmith is in big trouble! Hero lands again and this time it's lights out for Hammersmith! A quality knockout there for Hero.
