Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lu Hao (ranked 7277 p4p, 294 weight class) and Jose Mera (ranked 6409 p4p, 278 weight class). Jose Mera struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 137.1lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. 15 - 13 - 2, fighting out of New York, Lu Hao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
22 - 22 - 1, fighting out of London, Jose Mera! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hao throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Mera fails with a takedown attempt from distance. A counter left hand to the body from Hao misses its target. Mera shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hao as he jumps to the side. Mera tries to move into range but Hao moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Hao misses with an uppercut. Hao paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Mera misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hao.
Hao changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Mera gets a double leg takedown into Hao's guard. Hao keeping full guard, as Mera tries to pass. Hao is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mera is aware though and is defending well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hao had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mera defends it easily. Mera won't allow Hao to sweep him here. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hao is on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hao thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Hao throws a big right hand that misses. Mera looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hao connects with a couple of short punches. Mera throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hao uses it to pass to side control.
Mera tries to buck Hao off but Hao is having none of it. Mera prevents Hao from moving into mount. Mera is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Mera manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hao's best efforts. Hao is looking to advance position but Mera won't allow it. Hao prevents Mera from improving his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hao wants to control but Mera is keeping him busy. Hao wants to free his trapped foot but Mera is holding on for dear life with his legs. Mera is trying to get back to full guard. Hao stalling. Mera is looking for a sweep. Hao is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hao is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Hao passes to full mount! Mera in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mera is desperately trying to improve his position but Hao has a good base and remains in mount. Hao lands a heavy elbow. Mera is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hao looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Mera sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Hao looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Hao lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Mera tries to get to full guard but Hao has control of the leg. Hao takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mera is looking to control Hao's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mera avoid being mounted? Hao wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mera keeps working. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hao is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mera is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Hao tries to pass the half guard into mount. Mera knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Hao is looking for a kimura here.
Mera tries to roll over but Hao keeps him under control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lu Hao dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Hao displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mera throws out the jab. Mera misses with a two punch combination.
Hao throws a nice inside leg kick. Mera shoots in for a takedown but Hao shows good takedown defense. Horrible takedown attempt by Mera or perhaps it was just good defense by Hao, which made it look bad. A jab from Hao does it's job there. Mera throws a hook to the side of Hao's head but Hao sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. A little feinted left hand from Hao on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Mera takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Jose Mera seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice sprawl there from Hao as Mera shoots in. Lu Hao has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Mera. Hao lands a right hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mera is looking to clinch. Hao is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mera can do to turn this around? Hao looks to land a combination but Mera avoids it well. Hao tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mera was well out of range. Poor timing from Hao. Hao scores with a jab. Mera acknowledges it with a nod of the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fight moves into the clinch position. Hao pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mera is defended easily by Hao. Hao tried to counter with a leg kick but Mera avoided it. Lu Hao is winning the standup battle so far. That kick from Hao tenderised Mera's leg. Mera is trying to keep his angry face on. Mera fails with a takedown attempt. Hao needs to keep his hands up - Mera had a free shot at his head there. Mera tries for a takedown but Hao sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Mera tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Hao misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hao connects with a leg kick. Mera looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Hao throws a body shot but no joy. Mera slips under a jab. Mera fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Hao connects with a high kick. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hao thuds his right hand into Mera's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Hao wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Mera drives through with a takedown into guard. Hao pulls Mera in close to his closed guard and prevents Mera from doing any damage or advancing position. Mera tries to free his leg and advance position but Hao is retaining full guard. Hao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hao bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mera's guard. Hao stopping the sweep attempt from Mera. Hao is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Hao wants to control from the top but Mera keeps moving. Hao working some strikes from top position. Hao postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Mera keeping full guard, as Hao tries to pass. Hao lands a couple of elbows. Mera keeping moving, preventing Hao from controlling successfully. Hao postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Hao sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hao passes easily into side control. Nice work. Mera is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hao is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Mera is trying desperately to improve position. Hao content just to control the position here. Hao trying to control but he's not successful this time. Hao landing strikes from the mount. Hao can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mera is looking to escape. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hao looking to finish Mera with some ground and pound. This is bad for Mera! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lu Hao dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Hao lands with an overhand left. Mera moves in looking to clinch but Hao pushes him off. We've been told by Hao's head coaches at Big Bear Fight Factory that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Mera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hao manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Hao throws out a token jab with nothing on it. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mera is defended easily by Hao. Hao appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Mera looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Mera takes a jab right on the kisser.
Mera misses the shot to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mera tries for a takedown but Hao circles away easily and Hao counters with a nice uppercut. Lu Hao has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Mera. Mera tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. A left lands for Hao. Hao connects with a jab.

Mera is rocked! Hao stopping the sweep attempt from Mera. Hao is in close to Mera's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hao advances to half guard. Mera tries to get to full guard but Hao has control of the leg. Hao is looking for a kimura here.

Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Mera is squirming around, avoiding Hao's attempts to control the action. Mera tries to lock up and control but Hao gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Hao controlling the pace for now. Mera is working to get back to half guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Caine uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by OConnell.
Caine misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. OConnell connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
It looks like Caiaphas Caine has been cut. Caine on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
OConnell keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. OConnell lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. A head kick misses from Caine. Caine misses with a body shot
and Caine takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. OConnell lands a nice looking body shot.
Caine looks winded! OConnell moves out of range of the body kick. Caine needs to keep his hands up - OConnell had a free shot at his head there.
That has opened up Caiaphas Caine's cut even more. A lazy body kick from Caine and OConnell connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
The cut above Caiaphas Caine's eye is starting to cause him problems now. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Caine tries to score with a low kick but OConnell moves his leg out of the way. Caine throws a body kick, spinning off balance and OConnell counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.

After the fight, Paul OConnell was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Haber avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Mythos's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Haber connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Mythos scrambles back to his feet.

Mythos bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Haber's head. Haber throws an overhand right that lands on Mythos's shoulder, as Mythos tries to avoid the shot. Haber lands a nice looking body shot.

and Haber cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Mythos moves out of range of the body kick. A little feinted left hand from Mythos on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Haber swats away the attempt to clinch by Mythos. Haber throws a good cross that connects.
Mythos darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Haber moves out of range as Mythos strikes. Mythos scores with a one two! Haber had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mythos will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
A little jabbing left from Haber on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Mythos takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.

He's got his arms around Tiili's waist but Tiili gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Harrass off to one side.

Harrass looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Tiili lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Harrass scores with a body shot.
Tiili with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Harrass to score with a decent uppercut. Tiili scores with a leg kick.
Tiili wants to clinch up but Harrass keeps it at a distance. Harrass has been working his punching technique in the buildup to the fight and it appears to be paying off. Harrass displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tiili throws out the jab. Tiili throws a front kick aimed at Harrass's knee but Harrass avoids it well. Harrass wants to clinch. An attempted straight right counter from Tiili misses the target. Tiili feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Harrasss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Tiili dips to his left and cracks Harrass with an uppercut! This has been an exciting period of action! Tiili with a jab. Decent striking displayed by Harrass there. Harrass takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Harrass looks to throw the jab but Tiili is out of range. Tiili shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Harrass but Harrass pushes him off and we're back to square one. Tiili thows a body kick. Harrass tries to catch it but that hurt him. Tiili lands with an uppercut that bounces Harrass off the cage and back into range. Harrass displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tiili. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Roko Tiili will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
Tiili goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Harrass stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Tiili. A momentary lapse in concentration from Tiili enables Harrass to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Tiili manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Harrass postures up in Tiili's guard and throws a big left but Tiili blocks it. Tiili working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Harrass. Harrass is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Harrass trying to control but Tiili is working from the bottom. Phil Harrass has got the better of the ground game so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Harrass is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Tiili keeping moving, preventing Harrass from controlling successfully.

That will dishearten Tiili somewhat.

Tiili thows a left - swing and a miss! Tiili misses with a low kick as Harrass jumps back. Harrass is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Harrass steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tiili. Tiili throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Tiili misses with a body kick. Tiili wants to clinch up but Harrass keeps it at a distance. Harrass throws a leg kick but Tiili checks it. It looked like Tiili wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Harrass steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Tiili. Tiili throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Harrass sees it coming and avoids it easily. That kick from Tiili tenderised Harrass's leg. Harrass is trying to keep his angry face on. Nice straight punches there by Tiili. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Tiili. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Harrass dives in and grabs Tiili's left leg, looking for a takedown. Tiili pushes down on Harrass's head and hops out.

Harrass shoots in but no luck this time. Harrass moves out of range of the body kick. Harrass chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Tiili can pounce on him.
Tiili uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Harrass. A little feinted left hand from Tiili on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Harrass needs to keep his hands up - Tiili had a free shot at his head there. Tiili's jab looks to have found its range, popping Harrass under the eye. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Harrass crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Tiili - the referee stops the clock and Harrass gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Tiili. Harrass manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Tiili slaps away a takedown attempt from Harrass, before circling back to the center of the mat. Roko Tiili has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Phil Harrass. Harrass tests Tiili's chin there with a solid looking shot. Tiili looks for the body kick but Harrass saw that one coming.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tiili throws a body kick that misses. Tiili throws a shot from downtown. Harrass moves away and avoids it. Good leg kick by Tiili there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Harrass pushing out the jab but it's not landing. A kick lands to the mid section there for Tiili. Tiili has taken the fight to the clinch.
Harrass tightens his grip and picks Tiili up, before dumping him to the ground. Tiili manages to land in guard. Harrass wants to control from the top but Tiili keeps moving. Harrass might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Tiili haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that's the end of the fight! Roko Tiili showed his dominance in that final round. I think Tiili has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
