Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mohammed Salah! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Em Em! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Johanna Lukiainen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Salah will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Salah closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Em's guard. Salah looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Salah is looking to stand up but Em won't let him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Em is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Em is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Salah might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Salah engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salah seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Em for as long as he can get away with. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Salah throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Em's waist but Em gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salah off to one side. Em feints the counter takedown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Salah closes this distance looking for a takedown but Em circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammed Salah. That's going to take a lot out of him. Salah tries to score a power double leg takedown but Em sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Salah somewhat. Em keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Em tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Salah shoots in and bounces Em off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Salah tries to stand but Em is controlling from the bottom. Em trying to control the position.
Em looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Salah won't allow Em to sweep him here. Salah is looking to pass into half guard but Em pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Em is in guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Salah holds on and takes a little breather. Salah knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Em on the ground. Em passes into half guard. Em wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salah keeps working. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Salah moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Em Em will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Salah shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Em only half commits to the counter leg kick. Salah is trying hard to land a takedown here. Em sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. And Em tries to counter it with a takedown but Salah pushes his down on his head and steps out. Salah changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Em tries to avoid it but Salah manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Em to the ground. Em escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mohammed Salah. That's going to take a lot out of him. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Salah. Salah shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Em sprawls well. Em wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Salah gets slowly back to his feet. Em was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Salah is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Em's half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Em wants to improve his position but Salah is controlling well.
Salah works his way into full mount! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Salah controlling the position easily from mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Em is working to get back to half guard.
Salah seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Em is holding on tight.
Salah moves to his opponent's back but Em bucks him off and ends up in guard. A bit of a disaster there for Salah. Em wants to control from the top but Salah keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Em tries to free his leg and advance position but Salah is retaining full guard. Em trying to control but Salah is working from the bottom. Salah is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Salah's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Em wants to control from the top but Salah keeps moving. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Salah scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Em is being controlled here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Em Em will probably get the nod - 10:9. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Salah feints and as Em raises his hands in defense, Salah changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Em can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Salah controls the pace. Em is working an open guard so Salah takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Salah fails to land the takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Em displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Salah. Em gets caught napping as Salah dives in and scores a takedown. Em manages to retain guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salah controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Salah trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Em being controlled here, momentarily. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Em is on top in guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Salah keeping moving, preventing Em from controlling successfully. Salah controlling Em's posture. Mohammed Salah overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Em trying to control but Salah is working from the bottom. Em pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Salah is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Em pushing down on Salah's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Em takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Salah is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Em's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Em's back! Salah biding his time, controlling Em. Salah is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Salah controlling the position well here. Em rolled but Salah kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Salah patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? Em is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Salah keeps control of the position as Em tries to break free.
And that's the end of the fight! Mohammed Salah showed his dominance in that final round. I think Em has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
