0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roger Theodore! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Epstien moves into the clinch. Epstien drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Epstien is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Theodore is defending well. Epstien unloads a knee to the mid-section. Theodore lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh. Epstien's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Epstien clinches with his opponent.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Epstien. That's going to take a lot out of him. Epstien ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Epstien no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Epstien has control of Theodore's left arm, preventing Theodore from doing any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Epstien is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Epstien is pulling down on Theodore's head. It's preventing any offense from Theodore, at least for the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Epstien manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Theodore manages to get himself to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Theodore working a defensive guard but Epstien manages to pass into side control anyway.

Theodore is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Theodore's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Epstien has control of an arm but Theodore manages to advance to Epstien's back!

Epstien regains half guard. Epstien is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Theodore's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Theodore's back! Epstien connects with a big shot to the side of Theodore's head.
Epstien has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Theodore! Can he survive? No! He's out! Epstien gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gleeson with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
A nice inside leg kick there by Gleeson. That's going to slow Aloisio down. Aloisio throws a leg kick that is checked and Gleeson counters with a nice leg kick. Aloisio pivots, looking for a leg kick but Gleeson is out of range and Aloisio settles back down. Gleeson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Aloisio is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Malikoic fails in his attempt to clinch. Malikoic definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Malikoic throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Malikoic dives in for a single leg takedown but Mikhailov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Mikhailov feints the counter takedown. Mikhailov has managed to clinch.
Malikoic tries to pull guard but Mikhailov holds him up against the cage and eventually Malikoic drops back down to his feet.
Mikhailov tries to land knees in the clinch but Malikoic avoids the damage to the body. Mikhailov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Mikhailov closes the distance and clinches up with Malikoic, looking for a takedown. Mikhailov pushes Malikoic against the cage but Malikoic circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Malikoic doesn't succeed with the takedown and Mikhailov counters by moving into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Malikoic. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mikhailov gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Malikoic regains guard.
Malikoic wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Mikhailov manages to pass to side control. Malikoic has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mikhailov is working away from the top position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mikhailov working the head and body with strikes. Malikoic looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mikhailov wants to free his trapped foot but Malikoic is holding on for dear life with his legs. Still in half guard, Mikhailov seems content to control. Mikhailov stands up out of the half guard. Malikoic scores with a head kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mikhailov shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Malikoic scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Mikhailov manages to mount him!
My spies in All Star Performance Institute inform me that Mikhailov has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Mikhailov controlling the pace for now. Malikoic really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Malikoic wants to control but Mikhailov is having none of it. Mikhailov controlling from the full mount. Malikoic tries to reverse the position but Mikhailov maintains control. Mikhailov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Malikoic is looking to improve his position but Mikhailov isn't that keen on the idea. Mikhailov tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mikhailov moves to the back. Malikoic knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mikhailov on the ground. Malikoic trying to control but not successfully. Malikoic is trying to remain composed but Mikhailov is hammering down strikes to the side of his head. Malikoic is trying to get back to his feet but Mikhailov has full control of the position and if anything, Malikoic has just worked his way into a worse spot. Mikhailov is hanging on to Malikoic's back as he tries to escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Malikoic is trying to control his opponent's hands. Eventually Mikhailov gets his hands free and sinks in a rear naked choke. For a while it looks like Malikoic is going to survive but after struggling valiantly, he eventually has to tap out! Mikhailov is your winner!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vasquez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sanna swivels and escapes. Vasquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sanna sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Sanna forces Vasquez back against the cage and clinches. Sanna stalling the fight.
Sanna's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Sanna moves into the clinch successfully.
Vasquez is trying to push Sanna away but Sanna has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Sanna has Vasquez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Vasquez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Sanna jumps guard and drags Vasquez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Vasquez wants to control from the top but Sanna keeps moving. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vasquez wants to stand and escape but instead Sanna has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vasquez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sanna accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Sanna trying to control the position from guard on top but Vasquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Vasquez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanna wants to pass the guard but Vasquez is keeping the position. Vasquez avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Sanna decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Sanna goes for a double leg but Vasquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Vasquez continues to drive forward. Sanna has closed the distance and engaged Vasquez in a clinch.
Sanna has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Vasquez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Sanna throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Vasquez's waist but Vasquez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sanna off to one side. Sanna shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vasquez as he jumps to the side. Vasquez steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Sanna. Vasquez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Vasquez swinging wildly here.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sanna has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanna can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vasquez is looking to escape. Sanna is stalling here but it's allowed Vasquez to get half guard.
Sanna seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Sanna seems to be working for a kimura but Vasquez defends the submission attempt. Sanna trying to control from Vasquez's half guard. Vasquez has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Vasquez wants to sweep but no luck. Vasquez is looking for a triangle but Sanna pushes his legs off easily.

Vasquez throws a right and a left that both miss. Vasquez gets tackled into the cage by Sanna. Sanna maintains the clinch. Vasquez wants to break free but Sanna has control.

Sanna is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Vasquez pulls his head out easily. Sanna is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vasquez can do to turn this around? Sanna trying to hold on to Vasquez's head to control him but Vasquez postures up.
That's one minute gone in the round. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vasquez connects with a nice short shot to Sanna's temple. Vasquez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Sanna defending well though. Sanna is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Vasquez trying to control from half guard but Sanna is working away. Nice strikes from Vasquez there. Sanna wants to improve his position but Vasquez is controlling well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Sanna is working hard here to advance position. Sanna blocking the ground and pound attempt from Vasquez. Still in half guard, Vasquez seems content to control. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vasquez lands a nice short elbow. Sanna wants to sweep but Vasquez has passed to side control! Vasquez decides to stand back up. Sanna keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanna drives through and clinches with Vasquez against the cage.
Sanna pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Vasquez shoots in for a double leg but Sanna sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Vasquez tries to clinch but Sanna moves out of range. Sloppy strikes from Vasquez. Those never looked like landing. Sanna closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Vasquez sneaks out the side door and pushes Sanna away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Vasquez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Vasquez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Sanna as he avoids it easily. Michael Sanna has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel Vasquez. Sanna throws a front kick that sends Vasquez stumbling back into the cage. Vasquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sanna has his takedown stuffed letting Vasquez counter with a right hand. Sanna dives in for a single leg takedown but Vasquez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Vasquez appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sanna. Vasquez stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Vasquez wants it to stay on the feet. Sanna moves into the clinch. Sanna is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Vasquez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Sanna keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Vasquez's efforts to push away. Vasquez jumps guard but Sanna stands there with Vasquez around his waist. Vasquez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Manuel Vasquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Michael Sanna is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Vasquez misses with a body punch.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McDonald shoots and misses and Brown counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. McDonald misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

McDonald closes the distance and pushes Brown back into the cage. McDonald gets control of Brown's arms and successfully pulls guard. McDonald will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. McDonald seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. We've been hearing good reports from McDonald's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Brown is sitting in close to McDonald's body. McDonald has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Brown is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Brown is tapping! That was a very nice submission by McDonald.

De Negri half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Young pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. De Negri attempts a counter takedown but Young avoids it well and moves away. Young is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in De Negri's half guard. De Negri pushes Young off looking to stand but Young dives back in and keeps control.

De Negri is controlling Young's trapped leg to prevent Young from advancing to side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Young is sneakily working for an arm triangle but De Negri sees it coming and defends easily. Young is taking a breather. De Negri says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sergeant takes a shot right to the bread basket. Sergeant lands with a kick to the ribs.
Sergeant attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Carruthers appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body. Sergeant looks to land a combination but Carruthers avoids it well. A punch lands to the side of Sergeant 's head but he takes it in his stride. Sergeant misses with a jab, cross combination.
Carruthers cracks Sergeant with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Carruthers gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Carruthers is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sergeant seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Sergeant working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ortiz tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rumper sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ortiz somewhat. It looked like Rumper was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. Ortiz instigates a clinch. Ortiz changes levels and goes for a takedown here. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cathaway loads up on a big right hand but Daebyeol slips the punch. Daebyeol drops down looking for a counter takedown but Cathaway sprawls and moves away. Cathaway slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Nice uppercut there from Cathaway. Cathaway swinging wildly here.
Cathaway thuds his right hand into Daebyeol's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Cathaway throws a nice inside leg kick. Daebyeol takes the fight into the clinch. Cathaway gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Daebyeol.
Cathaway breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Daebyeol takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
