3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksander Benton! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Viktor Lagutenko and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Avery stuffs the takedown attempt from Benton. Benton gets slowly back to his feet. Avery attempts a counter takedown but Benton avoids it well and moves away. Benton moves into the clinch. Avery looking for a takedown. Benton gets control of Avery's arms and successfully pulls guard. Benton will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Avery wants to pass the guard but Benton is keeping the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Benton can do anything to dispel that myth. Avery looking to sit in guard and control but Benton gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Benton scoring with some ground and pound. Benton wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving. Avery avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Benton with a nice head shot there. Avery pulls Benton in close to prevent any damage. Benton loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Benton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Benton is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Benton is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Avery working a defensive guard here.

Benton with a nice head shot there. Benton postures up in Avery's guard and throws a big left but Avery blocks it. Benton wants to control from the top but Avery keeps moving. That's three minutes gone in the round. Benton lands a couple of digs. Benton trying to control the position from guard on top but Avery is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Benton postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Benton postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Avery covers up, he's hurt! Benton keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Benton and the ref steps in to end the fight! Benton can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
