4 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ari Ahikaroa! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ahikaroa moves into the clinch. Ahikaroa pulls guard effortlessly. Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Silva passes easily into side control. Nice work. Silva thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Ahikaroa takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ahikaroa tries to buck Silva off but Silva is having none of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ahikaroa is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Ahikaroa tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Ahikaroa perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Silva slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Silva is looking to cinch up a triangle. Ahikaroa throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Silva's body to avoid the submission. Silva has instead reached around Ahikaroa's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Silva arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franco keeps the fight on the outside. Ortiz has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Ortiz looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Ortiz throws a hook but Franco blocks it. Ortiz changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Franco looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Franco is trying to improve his position. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Franco tries to improve position but can't. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ortiz working away. Ortiz decides to stand up, so the ref orders Franco to his feet. Franco looks for a takedown here. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Warner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Warner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. And Silva tries to counter it with a takedown but Warner pushes his down on his head and steps out. Silva dives in and scores a takedown into Warner's guard. Silva is stalling in the full guard. Silva preventing the sweep. My spies in Melhor Lutador MMA inform me that Silva has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! 17 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Dan Sergeant! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Adriano Silva! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sergeant has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Silva. Silva connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Sergeant's hands. Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sergeant was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva. Sergeant looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Silva! Sergeant working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Silva taking a bit of punishment here - Sergeant scoring with strikes. Silva gets back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silva strikes from the bottom but Sergeant passes into mount!

Sergeant drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Sergeant swings around for an armbar but Silva sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sergeant's guard. Sergeant has his foot on Silva's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Silva works his way back into a safe position though. Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Sergeant is retaining full guard.

Sergeant throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Silva. Silva feints the counter takedown. Dan Sergeant is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Sergeant uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Nice takedown defense from Silva. No joy for Sergeant on that attempt. Sergeant tries a head kick but it misses.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Silva uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Sergeant has time to react. Sergeant shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Sergeant. Sergeant tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sergeant to the ground. Sergeant escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Sergeant shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sergeant gets slowly back to his feet. Silva tries to sprawl but Sergeant drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Sergeant passes into half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sergeant looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Sergeant prevents Silva from improving his position.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reaves pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Brown gets the takedown into side control. Reaves is pushing Brown's head away, looking to escape. Brown manages to hold on to the position though. Brown working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Reaves is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Reaves looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Reaves moves into full guard.

Italo tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch. Italo drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jones gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jones gets control of Italo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Italo tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard. Italo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jones has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Italo has managed to get both his arms back between Jones's legs - danger averted. Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Jones showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Italo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. Jones slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Italo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Italo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jones gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Jones wants to control from the top but Italo keeps moving. Italo is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jones defends well. Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position. Italo has a closed guard, preventing Jones from standing up. Jones in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Italo throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Jones escapes and throws Italo's legs to the side, diving into side control! Jones throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Jones remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Jones tries to move to mount but Italo blocks the move with his legs. Jones is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Italo's shoulder. That is not cool. Italo is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Italo sneaks back into half guard. Jones is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Italo has managed to free his arm - good work. Italo looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Jones stands up out of the half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Jones gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Italo counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Italo.
And that's the end of the fight! Daniel Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
