The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A left and a right from Maul both land. Nice combination. Alderich cracks Maul with an open hand slap. Maul fails with a takedown attempt. Alderich takes the fight into the clinch. A quick uppercut on the inside from Alderich. Alderich lands with a left to the head. Alderich blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Maul tries to work over Alderich's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Alderich breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Alderich has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Maul stuffs the takedown. Maul scores with a nice body kick.

Alderich breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Maul dives in for a single leg takedown but Alderich sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Maul avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Maul misses with a body kick. Alderich connects with a leg kick. Maul looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Maul bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Alderich's head backwards. A right-left combo lands from Alderich. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Maul lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Alderich has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Alderich and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. A close round but Paul Maul will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Maul shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Alderich eats them both and turns towards Maul to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Alderich wants to clinch. Alderich clinches with his opponent.
A short uppercut from Alderich. Alderich wants the takedown. Maul is fighting it off but Alderich persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Maul's guard against the cage. Maul wants to sweep but no luck. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Maul seems keen to control Alderich's posture. Alderich postures up in Maul's guard and throws a big left but Maul blocks it. Maul is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Alderich throws a strike but Maul rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maul accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alderich tries to land a sweep but no joy. Maul wants to control from the top but Alderich keeps moving. Alderich is pulling down on Maul's head to control his posture. Maul sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Will he be able to recover?!! Maul circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Alderich to the canvas! Alderich doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Maul keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Akumba has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Akumba has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Giannis finds it's way round the side to connect with Akumba's head. This could be trouble! No, Ashton has managed to free his arm - good work. Naranbaatar is trying to control. Ashton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

We've been informed that Gonzalez has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Soshnyanin misses with a head kick.

and Gonzalez counters with a left and a right... And another left! Soshnyanin is down! He's done! The ref dives in to save him and that's the end of the fight!

A quick step to the side and Kinshaw tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. A head kick misses from Kinshaw. Diego Hageman seems to be getting the better of the standup. Hageman's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Hageman uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kinshaw.

Dog has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Nice body punch from Cpw. Dog on the wrong end of a nice jab. Cpw jabs Dog right on the nose. Dog blinks but takes it well. Dog swats away the attempt to clinch by Cpw. Dog doesn't manage to clinch there - Cpw circles away.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pearson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jafar throws out the jab. Jafar throws a jab when Pearson was well out of range.
