The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Gates as Sakurai shoots in. Sakurai uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gates.
Gates misses with an uppercut. Sakurai saw that one coming. Sakurai shoots in but no luck this time. Sakurai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gates sprawls well. Gates wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Sakurai gets slowly back to his feet. Synyster Gates has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Takanori Sakurai . Gates with a hook. Sakurai misses with a takedown attempt - Gates sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Sakurai shoots in looking for a takedown. Gates tries to sprawl out of it but Sakurai keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Gates manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Sakurai throws a sloppy head kick and Gates moves out of range easily. Sakurai shoots in for a double leg but Gates sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Gates misses the jab. Sakurai throws a sloppy head kick and Gates moves out of range easily. Sakurai rolls over backwards and springs off the ropes and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Gates finish him?!
Sakurai is rocked! Sakurai looks up at the clock. Bad move! Gates lands a right hand from hell, dropping Sakurai . Gates pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.

6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shinichi Yanagida! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alcano lands a jab to Yanagida's midsection. Yanagida fails with the takedown. Yanagida closes the distance and clinches up with Alcano, looking for a takedown. Yanagida pushes Alcano against the ropes but Alcano circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Alcano scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Yanagida scores a takedown into full mount! Yanagida jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Alcano is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Alcano and Yanagida has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Alcano is looking to regain half guard here but Yanagida keeps moving and retains side control. Yanagida tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Alcano is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yanagida is trying to get an arm triangle but Alcano is defending well. You can see the frustration on Alcano's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Alcano is looking to get back to his feet here but Yanagida is keeping cool and he's managed to take Alcano's back. Alcano trying to control the action but Yanagida just sinks the hooks in.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Yanagida is looking for a choke. Alcano gets to his feet with his opponent on his back and slams him to the mat. Alcano manages to squirm out of the attempted choke and turns into his opponent's guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Alcano scoring with some ground and pound. Alcano tries to free his leg and advance position but Yanagida is retaining full guard. Alcano wants to control from the top but Yanagida keeps moving. Alcano won't allow Yanagida to sweep him here. Alcano slips nicely into half guard. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Alcano wants to pass the guard but Yanagida is defending well. Yanagida wants to get back to full guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Yanagida goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Yanagida misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. JP Alcano has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shinichi Yanagida. Yanagida looks gassed! Yanagida avoids the head kick by Alcano.
Shinichi Yanagida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Alcano throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. and Alcano counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena. Yanagida avoids the body shot from Alcano.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Alcano throws a head kick that half lands.

and Ivanov cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Ivanov avoids the head kick by Lind.
Yuri Ivanov has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Lind lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Ivanov at a distance.
And that's the end of the fight! Quinton Lind showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lind, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Sawaki is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 'Kodo' by The Yoshida Brothers. Keizo Sawaki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!
