Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jay Brown! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darrell Shane! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shirou Masuda and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shane's waist but Shane gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side. Brown checks a low kick from Shane. Shane leaves Brown with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Shane doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter. Shane throws a hook to the side of Brown's head but Brown sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Shane's jab looks to have found its range, popping Brown under the eye.
It looks like Jay Brown has been cut. Brown closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shane circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him. Brown dives in and grabs Shane's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shane pushes down on Brown's head and hops out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shane lands a slapping body shot.
Shane throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brown sees it coming and avoids it easily. Shane scores with a jab. Brown acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shane jabs at Brown's body. Shane throws a low kick but Brown avoids it. Brown will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Shane throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Brown uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shane. Shane scores with a decent looking hook. Brown shoots and misses and Shane counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Darrell Shane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Shane connects with a crisp jab.
Brown is rocked! Shane cracks Brown's jaw with two stiff jabs then ducks low and throws a soul-severing right uppercut to the mouth!! Brown slumps to the ground with blood on his lips. The referee steps in before Shane can do further damage! This one is done, son!
