And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 21 wins and 11 losses; Ivan Putski! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Dillan Fox.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. The fight moves into the clinch position. Claudiano is fighting off a takedown attempt but Putski is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Claudiano to the mat. Claudiano regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tori doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tori manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Tori working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Mata wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Mata is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
