The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Force lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sand circles away quickly and effectively.
Sand was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Force feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Sand throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Force distracts Sand with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Force landing some decent shots from guard.
Sand looking for a sweep. Not yet Sand, not yet.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sand is on top in guard.

Force wants to stand up but Sand is controlling him.

Sand is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Force is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Force has escaped and now he's on top!


Sand is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Force frees his head nicely. Oh but Sand has switched to an armbar! Force is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howlett gets caught napping as Dominiguez dives in and scores a takedown. Howlett manages to retain guard.
Howlett wants to get back to his feet but Dominiguez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Howlett is working an open guard so Dominiguez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Howlett throws a right and a left that Dominiguez avoids nicely.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Dominiguez! But no joy.
Howlett dives in and grabs Dominiguez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dominiguez pushes down on Howlett's head and hops out.

Dominiguez moves into the clinch successfully.

Dominiguez has Howlett pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Dominiguez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Howlett tumbling to the mat - Dominiguez dives into Howlett's guard.
Howlett is looking to stand back up but Dominiguez counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Howlett.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dominiguez stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Howlett to get to his feet.

Howlett throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Howlett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Dominiguez swivels and escapes.
Dominiguez scores with a jab to the jaw.
Howlett will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Howlett drops down looking for an ankle pick but Dominiguez pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for James Howlett. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Howlett tries to move into range but Dominiguez moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ohhhhhhhhhh, brutal head kick from Dominiguez! This one is all over!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zavurov dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Midget looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Zavurov is fending him off so far but Midget persists. Nope, Zavurov circles away and we're back to standing.
Zavurov throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A telegraphed right hand from Zavurov misses the target.
Midget misses with a takedown attempt
and Zavurov counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Midget looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A jab from Zavurov misses.
Zavurov takes a swing at Midget's ribcage but misses.
Midget half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Crunch! Zavurov slams his shin into Midget's torso.
Zavurov thuds his right hand into Midget's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A lazy left from Zavurov finds it's target.
Both fighters circling a little - Zavurov finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.

Zavurov lands a head kick. Midget smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Zavurov fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Midget.
Zavurov's coach down at St Petersburg MMA Gym was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Zavurov's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Zavurov. Midget shrugs it off though.

and Midget counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Midget drops back, looking for a kneebar! Zavurov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Zavurov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Zavurov!

Midget is looking to regain half guard here but Zavurov keeps moving and retains side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Midget wants to control but Zavurov postures up.
Midget tries to buck Zavurov off but Zavurov is having none of it.

Zavurov avoids the strikes from the bottom by Midget.

Zavurov stands up and beckons Midget to his feet.
Zavurov lands with an uppercut that bounces Midget off the cage and back into range.
Zavurov paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Zavurov throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Midget counters with a takedown into side control.
Midget wants to control but Zavurov is keeping him busy.
Zavurov is looking to get back to his feet here but Midget is keeping cool and he's managed to take Zavurov's back.

Zavurov is trying to defend against the choke here but Midget has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Midget Tightens the hold and Zavurov taps out furiously! Midget displays superior BJJ to win the fight.

We've been told by Castillo's head coaches at Doherty's Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Juan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Castillo on the side of the head.

Juan lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Juan throws a right and a left that Castillo avoids nicely.
Juan lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A head kick by Castillo - that's a beauty! Juan is out but he's somehow still standing... he's going... going... gone. Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Castillo can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!
