0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marlin Scars! The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Albert Achterberg and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! daBell leaves Scars with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Scars throws a nice head kick!
daBell misses with a looping right. daBell listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Scars with a poor takedown and daBell counters with a straight right hand. Scars slips under a jab from daBell. Scars tries to counter by closing the distance. Scars looks for a takedown but daBell sprawls well. Ringz daBell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marlin Scars. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. daBell misses with a wild body shot. Scars tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but daBell defends well and Scars ends up having to push daBell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. The fighters circle momentarily. daBell darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
It looks like Marlin Scars has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. daBell throws a push kick but Scars slaps the foot to one side. Scars is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. daBell is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Scars. And Scars tries to counter it with a takedown but daBell pushes his down on his head and steps out. Scars shoots for a double leg takedown but daBell sprawls well. He's pushed Scars's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. We've been told by daBell's head coaches at Official UFC Performance Institute Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. daBell misses the shot to the body. Scars misses with a head kick.
Scars shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and daBell cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. daBell is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Scars. Scars tries to counter by closing the distance. daBell scores with a jab to the body. daBell works the jab nicely. Scars darts in looking for a takedown but daBell gets double underhooks and turns Scars into the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Scars takes a body punch but keeps moving. Scars takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. Scars scores with a takedown into daBell's guard. daBell has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Scars off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Scars is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. daBell's jab looks to have found its range, popping Scars under the eye. Scars slips a straight right by daBell. Ringz daBell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. daBell throws a leg kick but Scars checks it. A looping hook to the body misses from daBell. Scars does a little dance to reset his feet. daBell looks to land a left hand but Scars moved out of range nicely. daBell dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Scars has his takedown stuffed letting daBell counter with a right hand. Scars takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Scars with a lazy takedown attempt and daBell counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. A jab lands there for daBell. daBell moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. daBell misses with a hook. Scars ducked under it nicely. daBell misses with a body shot.
daBell misses with an uppercut. Scars saw that one coming. daBell is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Scars moves in looking to clinch but daBell pushes him off. Scars fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. daBell is looking to counter with head kicks.
That's four minutes gone in the round. daBell fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Scars on the side of the head.
Scars is rocked! Scars leaves his chin hanging out and daBell seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Scars crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reed has a takedown stuffed. Reed cracks Callus with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Callus moves into the clinch successfully.
Callus managing to block the knees to the body from Reed.
Reed pulls guard. Callus stopping the sweep attempt from Reed. Callus is fighting to break Reed's control of his arms but Reed is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Reed is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Callus wants to get up but he can't break Reed's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Callus wants to stand and escape but instead Reed has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Reed is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reed stands and throws Callus's legs to the side, diving into side control. Reed remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Reed connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Callus some visible discomfort.
We've been hearing that Reed has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Reed controls the position. Reed seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Callus for as long as he can get away with. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reed working the body and head with strikes. Reed staying calm. Reed scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Callus to see if he's OK. Reed is trying to get an arm triangle but Callus is defending well. Reed is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Callus will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Reed is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Callus is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Reed is trying to get an arm triangle but Callus is defending well. Callus is trying to escape the position but Reed is controlling the position. Callus takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Reed is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Callus will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Reed is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Callus knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Popotrek uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Teptrom has time to react. Teptrom throws a body shot but no joy. Popotrek drops down looking for a counter takedown but Teptrom sprawls and moves away. Popotrek drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Teptrom seems keen to control Popotrek's posture. Teptrom is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Popotrek keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Teptrom's head. Popotrek is working Teptrom over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Popotrek lands a couple of elbows. Teptrom has momentary wrist control but Popotrek slips an elbow through the middle. Popotrek definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Teptrom bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Popotrek's guard. Teptrom trying to control but Popotrek is working from the bottom. Popotrek on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Popotrek tries to get out of the position. Popotrek keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Teptrom manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Popotrek stands up over Teptrom, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Teptrom eats them both and turns towards Popotrek to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Popotrek looks to throw the jab but Teptrom is out of range. Teptrom shoots in and gets a takedown into Popotrek's guard. Popotrek is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Teptrom presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Teptrom wants a takedown.

Popotrek feints and then cracks Teptrom's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Teptrom down. Nice cross by Popotrek. A good leg kick by Popotrek. Popotrek walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Popotrek checks a low kick from Teptrom. Teptrom walks into a left hand. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Teptrom takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. Popotrek is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches. Teptrom lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Teptrom tries to clinch but Popotrek moves out of range. Teptrom has a takedown stuffed.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Teptrom tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Popotrek manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Popotrek closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Popotrek lands in his opponent's guard. Popotrek has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Popotrek loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hunter jabs Bell to the body, keeping him at a distance. Hunter lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Bell falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

The fight stays on the outside here - Tanaka looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Bell goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Bell scores with a shot to the body.
Bell circles away from the clinch attempt.
Bell let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land. Tanaka tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Bell paws at him with a jab and circles away. Tanaka closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Tanaka lands an uppercut. Tanaka throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Bells head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tanaka lands with a short shot to the head. A short right from Tanaka. Tanaka breaks from the clinch.
Tanaka lands a big head kick that sends Bell tumbling to the mat! Tanaka takes a step backwards and waves Bell back to his feet - he wants the finish! Good work by Tanaka as he checks the leg kick. Bell misses with a wild body shot. Tanaka tries to clinch there but Bell circles away.
Tanaka clinches. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Tanaka lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Tanaka scores with a shoulder strike. Tanaka works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Tanaka escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bell cracks Tanaka with a good jab. Bell throws a lazy head kick and Tanaka counters with a nice kick to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tanaka blocks a head kick by Bell.
Tanaka lands with a big left! Bell is wobbled badly! Tanaka comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Bell to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Shiro Tanaka! Shiro Tanaka retains his featherweight title! A less than humble Shiro Tanaka misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
