41 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McCarthy! The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCarthy throws a body shot but no joy. McCarthy tries to clinch but fails miserably and Bully counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. David McCarthy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. McCarthy chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Bully can pounce on him.
McCarthy throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bully sees it coming and avoids it easily. As McCarthy backs away, Bully returns fire with a leg kick that just misses. Bully comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. A head kick misses from McCarthy. Bully smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. An inside leg kick lands from Bully. McCarthy swings widly with a right hand
and Bully counters with an inside leg kick. A head kick by McCarthy misses and McCarthy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. McCarthy tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Bully counters with a straight right hand. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Bully moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. A solid leg kick lands there for Bully.
Bully dips to his left and cracks McCarthy with an uppercut! McCarthy takes one on the chin but seems OK.
McCarthy closes the distance but Bully moves to the side enabling Bully to counter with a crisp jab.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bully throws a leg kick which misses McCarthy's front leg but catches the back leg as McCarthy tries to avoid it. Bully looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Bully with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bully sitting in guard here, content to control. McCarthy wants to stand up but Bully is controlling him. Bully is standing up over McCarthy. McCarthy looks to escape but Bully dives into side control.

Bully has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Bully is now in McCarthy's guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bully trying to control but McCarthy is working from the bottom. Bully works over McCarthy with some ground and pound from guard. Bully scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Beltran doesn't succeed with the takedown and Oddie counters with a big head kick but Beltran shrugs it off. Carlos Beltran seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Oddie throws a right hand that Beltran ducks under and follows up with a left that Beltran also avoids with ease. Oddie shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Oddie showed some decent athleticism there. Oddie is figuring out what he wants to do next. Oddie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Petiot bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Schultz might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Petiot is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Schultz will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schultz looks to move to half guard but instead Petiot has passed into mount! Damn! Petiot misses with a head shot. Petiot throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Petiot is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Schultz looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! Aurelio looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it. Arjuna explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Arjuna will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hirigushi tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. O Malley manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. O Malley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
O Malley throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. O Malley feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hirigushis jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! O Malley has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Hirigushi is landing a low percentage of strikes. O Malley fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hirigushi to the ground. O Malley is now in Hirigushi's guard. Hirigushi has his feet on O Malley's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Kendo Hirigushi decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
