Nurmaputinov doesn't succeed with the takedown and Courtial counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Courtial bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. It looks like Khamzat Nurmaputinov has been cut. Courtial stuffs the takedown attempt from Nurmaputinov. Nurmaputinov gets slowly back to his feet. Courtial is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Nurmaputinov with a body shot. Nurmaputinov tries for a takedown but Courtial circles away easily and Courtial connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. and Geiger decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Keaty's guard. Keaty looking to hit a scissor sweep but Geiger is one step ahead there. Geiger drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Keaty dives on top into guard. Geiger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Geiger definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Geiger keeping moving, preventing Keaty from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Keaty showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Keaty postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Keaty missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Keaty is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Geiger. Keaty misses with a wild body shot. Geiger throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Keaty tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Geiger is in Keaty's guard. Keaty is trying to control the position but Geiger postures up. Gagnon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Spar gets slowly back to his feet. Spar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Wrestling Spar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barrett bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Faire's head backwards. Faire gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Faire takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Faire closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Faire is trying to get an arm triangle but Barrett is defending well. Barrett is looking for a sweep. Faire is looking to take a break and control but Barrett is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Barrett's coaches at Cozad The Island have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position. Faire trying to control but Barrett is working from the bottom. Faire forces his way into half guard. Barrett is controlling Faire's trapped leg to prevent Faire from advancing to side control. Barrett is looking to improve his position.
Faire wants to lay and pray for a moment but Barrett keeps working. Faire takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Faire trying to work for an americana but Barrett has managed to regain full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Barrett controlling the position. Faire wants to pass the guard but Barrett is keeping the position. Barrett is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Faire trying to control but Barrett is working from the bottom. Barrett has Faire pulled in close to control his posture. Faire stands and throws Barrett's legs to the side, diving into side control. Faire tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barrett rushes Faire and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Barrett scores with a hook to the body. Barrett working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. A head punch on the inside from Faire fails to land. Barrett has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Faire uses from the top position. Barrett keeping full guard, as Faire tries to pass. Faire is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Barrett knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Barrett for a finish. Barrett preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Faire. Well, with Faire on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before Barrett is tapping out... Can he escape the position? Barrett just trying to survive but Faire is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Faire is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Barrett has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Faire has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Barrett taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Faire doesn't care though - he's delighted!
