The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thurtz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Gailfus being controlled for a moment.
Gailfus really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Thurtz decides to stand back up. Thurtz steps back and let's Gailfus get back to his feet.
Gailfus misses with a takedown attempt
and Thurtz counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

It looks like Ryan Gailfus has been cut.
Thurtz throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Gailfus stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Thurtz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gailfus was well out of range. Poor timing from Thurtz.

and Thurtz counters with a right hand that sends Gailfus tumbling to the canvas! Can Thurtz finish him? He dives into Gailfus's guard looking to do just that!

Velasquez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Penn for as long as he can get away with.
Velasquez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Velasquez throws a sloppy strike and Penn uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Penn has ended up in Velasquez's guard.
Penn wants to stand but Velasquez is controlling his posture from full guard.

In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
