The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Koning pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Velez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Velez tries to keep at a distance but Blaine has taken the fight into the clinch. Blaine stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Velez's coach down at Cozad MMA Las Vegas was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Velez's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Blaine lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Barney scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Barney listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Barney swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Star. A nice inside leg kick there by Barney. That's going to slow Star down. Star moves out of range of the strikes. Star scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Star trying to control from Barney's half guard. Barney has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Star wants to control from the top but Barney keeps moving.

Star escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Barney gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Barney sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Star's guard. Star is trying to get back to full guard. Barney takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Star is trying to stand up here but Barney is controlling him well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Star tries to move into range but Barney moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Dr Barney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Barney misses with a looping left. Barney lands a lovely overhand right. Barney takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Star is rocked! Barney throws a nice inside leg kick. Oh Star is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Good exchange - Barney coming out on top. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Star walks into a left hand. Dr Barney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Star connects with a body shot. Barney is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Star had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into mush. Barney is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Star. Barney lands a head kick. Star smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Star looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Barney is fending him off so far but Star persists. Nope, Barney circles away and we're back to standing.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullins fails with a takedown attempt. Kristiansen fails with an attempt to clinch.

Timmons is trying desperately to improve position. James working for a guillotine from mount but Timmons is in no mood to give up.
