 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Santos misses with an uppercut. Thiago Santos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Santos looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Shiima slaps away a takedown attempt from Santos, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Shiima works a leg free and moves into half guard. Shiima wants to control but Santos is keeping him busy.  The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maua fails with a takedown attempt. da Silva lands with a nice combination. Maua backs away looking to recover. Maua shoots in looking for a takedown. da Silva tries to sprawl out of it but Maua keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. da Silva manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. da Silva shoots in but no luck this time. Maua fails with the takedown
and da Silva counters with a nice double leg into half guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lucas Maua. That's going to take a lot out of him. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. da Silva slows the pace down in half guard. Maua is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

da Silva isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Maua stacks da Silva on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Maua! da Silva is trying to control Maua's posture but Maua avoids it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. da Silva might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Maua kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Maua working the strikes but da Silva uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

da Silva swings around for an armbar but Maua sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into da Silva's guard. Maua loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Joao Paulo da Silva has got the better of the ground game so far. da Silva is pulling down on Maua's head. It's preventing any offense from Maua, at least for the moment.

Maua with the ground and pound but da Silva uses the opportunity to regain guard. da Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. da Silva uses his free foot to push down on Maua's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Maua. The referee warns Maua that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
da Silva postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Maua looks a forlorn figure.

da Silva thumps Maua with a low kick. da Silva goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Maua avoids a punch combination nicely.

And that's the end of the fight! Joao Paulo da Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well da Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. Lilja seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sewell does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. and Insano holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Insano lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
