Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

and Nurmagomedov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Patelle's guard.
Nurmagomedov is pushing down on Patelle's leg trying to pass to half guard. Patelle is fighting to maintain full guard but Nurmagomedov has managed to sneak the leg through.
Nurmagomedov will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nurmagomedov is looking to advance position but Patelle won't allow it.
Patelle keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Patelle has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA New York. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Nurmagomedov is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Nurmagomedov passes Patelle's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Nurmagomedov moves nicely into side control.
Nurmagomedov misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Nurmagomedov has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Patelle is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Nurmagomedov yanks on the arm and Patelle is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Nurmagomedov.
