We've been hearing good reports from Bates's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Alkoun wants to control from the top but Bates keeps moving.

Bates bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alkoun's guard.

Bates stands and throws Alkoun's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Alkoun tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bates wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Bates wants to stand but Alkoun has his arm trapped.
Alkoun looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Alkoun is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bates connects with a decent elbow.
Bates works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Bates has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Bates has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Alkoun is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Bates yanks on the arm and Alkoun is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Bates.
