And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deandre Velez!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Ben Watson and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tronc dodges the punch combination from Velez.
Velez throws a series of punches but Tronc moves out of range.
Velez misses with a kick to the body

and Tronc holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Tronc tries to pull guard but Velez holds him up against the cage and eventually Tronc drops back down to his feet.

Tronc pulls guard.

Tronc is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Velez defends well.
Tronc is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Velez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tronc has his foot on Velez's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Velez works his way back into a safe position though.

Velez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Tronc is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tronc's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Velez wanted to stand there but Tronc had control of the position.

and Tronc counters with a left and a right that stings Velez.
Tronc really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Tronc fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Velez, pushing him back against the cage.
Tronc jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Velez walks away with a smile on his face. Tronc gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Velez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
It looks like Billy Tronc has been cut.
Velez throws a front kick aimed at Tronc's knee but Tronc avoids it well.
Tronc appears to be looking for a big counter.
Velez tried to score with a low kick but Tronc checks it.
Tronc tries to clinch up but Velez circles away and keeps his distance.
Tronc has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Billy Tronc. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Tronc seems to be squinting his left eye. Perhaps he got a poke in that previous exchange. Velez shows no mercy and swarms him with a barage of strikes! Tronc is backing up but Velez catches him with a final right hook that drops him! Tronc covers up and the referee steps in to end the fight! Velez Jumps to his feet and flashes his guns to the crowd. Oh yeah, baby! How'd you like them apples?!

Mcpherson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
