The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Honda takes one on the button.

Honda feints and as Path raises his hands in defense, Honda changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Path looking for a sweep. Not yet Path, not yet.
Path wants to stand but Honda is controlling the position.
Honda wants to pass the guard but Path is keeping the position.
Path looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Honda wants to control from the top but Path keeps moving.

Mertel throws a head kick but Nickoson moves out of range.
Mertel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mertel lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Mertel counters with a beautiful right hand that knocks Nickoson out cold! What a finish! Mertel is going crazy, running around the mat, summersaulting off the corner posts and screaming into the cameras. Something tells me he's pretty happy!
