The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shaffer closes the distance and clinches.
Teixeira is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Shaffer pulls him back up using the underhooks.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Teixeira connects with a nice short shot to Shaffer's temple.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Teixeira lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Teixeira lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Shaffer has a hand on Teixeira's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Teixeira takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Shaffer is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Teixeira wants to control the pace but Shaffer is squirming around nicely.
Teixeira has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Teixeira lands a big shot there that rocks Shaffer but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Teixeira manages to capitalize on a mistake by Shaffer to take his back!
