The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tomsett throws a left that rocks Branch and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Tomsett dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Branch regain composure!
Branch is rocked! It looks like Tom Branch has been cut. You can see the frustration on Branch's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Oh Branch is still in real trouble! With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rick Viaz! The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Penn lands with a straight right. Viaz didn't see that one coming. Viaz fails with an attempt to clinch.
Viaz fails with the takedown and Penn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Viaz has his takedown stuffed and Viaz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Penn lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Viaz with a lazy takedown attempt and Penn counters with a lovely straight right hand! BJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Viaz. Viaz closes the distance but Penn moves to the side and Penn counters with a straight right hand. Penn stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Penn drops his shoulder and cracks Viaz with a huge uppercut! Viaz goes down! Can Penn finish him?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cleaver lands a nice hook to Gracie's body. Gracie takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. A jab from Cleaver misses. Cleaver fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Cleaver works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Cleaver throws a lazy right hand but Gracie sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. And Gracie tries to counter it with a takedown but Cleaver pushes his down on his head and steps out. Cleaver bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Mervin Cleaver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gracie takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Cleaver lands with a right hand. Gracie walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Cleaver is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie. Cleaver connects with a body shot that sends Gracie's belly button to the back. This has been an exciting period of action! Cleaver feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Gracies jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Cleaver thuds a left hand into Gracie's body. Cleaver fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Boone shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Boone is working for a submission of some sort.
