Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Hatton (ranked 4378 p4p, 2336 weight class) and Luiz Mendoza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Hatton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 18 - 1, fighting out of London, Luiz Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendoza throws a one two combo.
Hatton misses with a double jab.
Mendoza is looking for the big counter here.
Hatton tries to grapple but his opponent circles
letting Mendoza counter with a right hand.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hatton.
Hatton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mendoza shoots in and bounces Hatton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Mendoza distracts Hatton with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mendoza is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hatton knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mendoza on the ground.

Mendoza drops back looking for a leg! Hatton is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hatton manages to kick Mendoza off! Mendoza jumps back into Hatton's guard.

Hatton on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hatton tries to get out of the position.

Mendoza keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hatton's head.
Mendoza is in close to Hatton's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hatton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mendoza works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mendoza looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Hatton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Mendoza is taking a breather. Hatton says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Mendoza seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Mendoza working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Mendoza has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hatton is looking to improve his position.
Mendoza lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Hatton is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mendoza working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Well, if Mendoza is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hatton wants to control but Mendoza passes into side.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hatton seems a little lost for a moment, as Mendoza dominates the positioning.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Luiz Mendoza dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Hatton shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mendoza defends it nicely.
Hatton misses with a wild combination.
Mendoza throws a low kick but Hatton moves out of range easily.
Mendoza lands a right hook to the body.
Hatton finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hatton shoots for a double leg takedown but Mendoza sprawls well. He's pushed Hatton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Hatton misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Mendoza.

Mendoza breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Mendoza throws a leg kick but Hatton checks it.
Hatton looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Hatton takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A punch combination from Hatton misses.
Mendoza has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mendoza drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Mendoza passes into half guard.
Mendoza is controlling the pace.
Mendoza's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Hatton wants to improve his position but Mendoza is controlling well.

Hatton wants to control but Mendoza passes into side.
Hatton seems a little lost for a moment, as Mendoza dominates the positioning.

Mendoza is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hatton will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Hatton tries to bench press Mendoza off him but Mendoza keeps the position.
Hatton is working to avoid the ground and pound but Mendoza connects with a decent elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendoza content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Hatton tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mendoza wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hatton tries to bench press Mendoza off him but Mendoza keeps the position.
Hatton wants to get back to his feet but Mendoza drags him back down.

Mendoza cracks Hatton with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Oh Hatton is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mendoza has hold of Hatton's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hatton tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Mendoza cranks the arm and Hatton screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hatton, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Luiz Mendoza!
Luiz Mendoza was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
