Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ivan Vovchanov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Habib Mogamedov! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mogamedov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vovchanov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Vovchanov tries to get out of the position. Mogamedov tries to move to mount but Vovchanov blocks the move with his legs. Mogamedov throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Mogamedov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. You can see the frustration on Vovchanov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Mogamedov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vovchanov, who protects the arm well. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mogamedov wants to stand but Vovchanov is controlling his arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mogamedov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Vovchanov is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Vovchanov is looking for a sweep. Mogamedov lands a nice forearm strike. Mogamedov looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Vovchanov is avoiding damage well.
Mogamedov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Mogamedov scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Vovchanov to see if he's OK. Mogamedov sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Vovchanov is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vovchanov prevents Mogamedov from moving into mount. Mogamedov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mogamedov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Vovchanov keeps working. Mogamedov throws a strike aimed at the side of Vovchanov's head but Vovchanov avoids it well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vovchanov is not content to let Mogamedov control the position. Mogamedov happy to just control the position for now.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Vovchanov loads up on a big right hand but Mogamedov slips the punch. Vovchanov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vovchanov showed some decent athleticism there. Vovchanov is keen to just control but Mogamedov is a slippery customer. Vovchanov wants to work for an arm triangle but Mogamedov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Vovchanov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mogamedov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mogamedov trying to hold on to Vovchanov's head to control him but Vovchanov postures up.
Vovchanov with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Vovchanov wants to control but Mogamedov is keeping him busy. Vovchanov sitting and controlling from the half guard. Vovchanov wants to pass to mount but Mogamedov is defending the position. Mogamedov is refusing to be controlled, as Vovchanov sits in half guard. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Vovchanov is trying to work for a kimura but Mogamedov is defending well.
Mogamedov wants to improve his position but Vovchanov is controlling well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Habib Mogamedov dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Mogamedov looks for a takedown but Vovchanov sprawls well. Vovchanov closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Vovchanov lands in his opponent's guard. Vovchanov is posturing up here but Mogamedov has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Vovchanov tries to roll out but it's too tight and Vovchanov has to tap! Slick submission there by Mogamedov!
