Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tatsura Konogawa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duncan Vazquez! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Ivan Kurochkin and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vazquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Konogawa avoids it really well and circles away. Vazquez goes for a double leg but Konogawa avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Konogawa continues to drive forward. Duncan Vazquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Vazquez with a poor takedown and Konogawa counters with a two punch combo. Tatsura Konogawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duncan Vazquez. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Konogawa tries a head kick but it misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Vazquez looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
That's one minute gone in the round. A jab from Vazquez misses. Konogawa lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Konogawa could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Vazquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Konogawa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vazquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Konogawa throws a quick counter head kick but Vazquez was just out of range. Vazquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Konogawa looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Konogawa is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Vazquez is controlling him well. Vazquez throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Konogawa is trying to buck Vazquez off. Vazquez throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Konogawa works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vazquez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Vazquez connects with a nice short shot to Konogawa's temple. Konogawa is looking to escape. Konogawa is staying active underneath Vazquez, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Vazquez is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Vazquez not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Vazquez throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Vazquez thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Konogawa's head. Vazquez looks winded!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Konogawa keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Vazquez scoring with strikes to the body and head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Vazquez is trying to control. Konogawa wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Konogawa avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Vazquez. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Vazquez is looking to advance position but Konogawa won't allow it.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. A head kick misses from Konogawa. Konogawa changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Vazquez tries to avoid it but Konogawa manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Vazquez to the ground. Vazquez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Vazquez fails with a takedown attempt. Konogawa went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vazquez tries to close the distance and clinch but Konogawa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Vazquez fails with a takedown attempt. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Vazquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Konogawa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vazquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. It looked like Konogawa was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Tatsura Konogawa will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Konogawa misses with a head kick.
Vazquez instigates a clinch. Vazquez has Konogawa pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Konogawa manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Konogawa jumps guard and drags Vazquez to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vazquez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Vazquez lands a couple of digs. Vazquez trying to control but Konogawa is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vazquez showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Vazquez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Vazquez is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vazquez postures up in Konogawa's guard and throws a big left but Konogawa blocks it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Konogawa wants to stand but Vazquez is controlling the position. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Vazquez throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Vazquez tries for a takedown but Konogawa circles away easily and Konogawa counters with a two punch combo. Konogawa throws a nice head kick!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vazquez drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Vazquez's corner is telling him to maintain position. Konogawa is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Vazquez presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat. Konogawa ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Konogawa no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Konogawa wriggles free and stands up. Vazquez tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Vazquez misses with a takedown and Konogawa counters with a two punch combo. Tatsura Konogawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duncan Vazquez.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vazquez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Konogawa pinned against the cage. Konogawa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Konogawa connects with a high kick.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Konogawa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A head kick misses from Konogawa. Konogawa is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Vazquez can do to turn this around? Vazquez shoots in for a takedown but Konogawa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Konogawa went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Konogawa tries a head kick but it misses.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Konogawa lands a head kick. Vazquez smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Vazquez misses with a takedown attempt and Konogawa counters with a left and a right that stings Vazquez. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Tatsura Konogawa dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Konogawa fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Vazquez avoids it really well and circles away. Vazquez shoots in and drives through. Konogawa sprawls well. Konogawa throws a big counter combination but Vazquez scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage. Vazquez shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Vazquez takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Konogawa is looking to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vazquez slips a nice elbow through Konogawa's hands, connecting with Konogawa's forehead. Duncan Vazquez has got the better of the ground game so far. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Konogawa is trying to stand up here but Vazquez is controlling him well. Vazquez sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Konogawa defending well though. Vazquez with the ground and pound but Konogawa uses the opportunity to regain guard. Vazquez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Vazquez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Vazquez with a flurry of punches that miss. Vazquez has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Konogawa wants to get back to his feet but Vazquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Konogawa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Vazquez stops Konogawa from standing up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Vazquez blocks a head kick by Konogawa.
Konogawa throws a head kick that misses. Vazquez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Vazquez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Konogawa throws Vazquez to one side and escapes! No luck for Vazquez with that takedown attempt. Duncan Vazquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Konogawa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Tatsura Konogawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Duncan Vazquez. Konogawa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Vazquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Konogawa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vazquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Konogawa is looking for a counter combo.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Konogawa throws a head kick but Vazquez moves out of range.
Konogawa shoots in and bounces Vazquez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Konogawa wants to stand but Vazquez is controlling his posture from full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Konogawa stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that's the end of the fight! Tatsura Konogawa showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Konogawa, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
