Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Justin Duffy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chael Shonen! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Duffy gets in close and instigates a clinch. Duffy doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Duffy pulls guard successfully.
Shonen stays in close to Duffy's body and controls the position. Duffy looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Shonen passes into side control.
Duffy tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Shonen easily slips into full mount! Duffy throws a strike but has given up his back in the process.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shonen trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Duffy doesn't escape. Duffy wants to get back to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shonen is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Shonen gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Shonen gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Shonen apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Duffy looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Shonen actively working from the bottom here. Shonen flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Shonen avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Duffy. Duffy is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Shonen is just riding it out for now. Duffy eventually gives up the hold. Shonen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Duffy is working away from the top position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shonen has his hands clasped together around Duffy's back. He's all about the action. Duffy scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Shonen looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shonen is looking to improve his position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Duffy in particular looking to stall.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shonen manages to get to full guard.
Shonen pulls Duffy in close to prevent any damage. Shonen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Duffy wants to control from the top but Shonen keeps moving. Shonen working for a triangle but Duffy defends it easily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shonen has his feet on Duffy's thighs here. He's pushed Duffy off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Duffy screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Chael Shonen! Chael Shonen got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
