Undercard bout

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeramiah Brewer (ranked 25589 p4p, 3719 weight class) and Alexei Volkov (ranked 463 p4p, 346 weight class). Brewer comes to the cage accompanied by Take me home, Country road. Alexei Volkov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Brewer stuffs the takedown.
Brewer tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Volkov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Brewer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Volkov.
Brewer tries to counter by clinching up but Volkov breaks away and moves out of range.
Volkov circles away from the clinch attempt.

Volkov scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Brewer is not content to let Volkov control the position.
Brewer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Volkov is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Brewer is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Willems shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Duran but Duran pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Duran scores with a nice right hand.
It looks like Frank Willems has been cut.
Willems blocks a head kick by Duran.
Willems walks into a left hand.
The crowd cheers as Duran lands an impressive looking overhand right. Willems doesn't seem phased though.
Duran misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Duran pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Duran lands a nice shot that snaps Willems's head back.
Duran swings for the body but Willems moves out of range.
Duran connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Duran fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Willems misses with a head kick.
Duran jabs Willems to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Willems lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Duran circles away quickly and effectively.
It looked like Duran was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Duran uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Duran drops Willems with a naaaaasty hook - Willems is in real trouble here! Duran dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Dirk lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Reijiro circles away quickly and effectively.
Reijiro throws an off balance right hand
and Dirk counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dirk punishes Reijiro's body with a nice straight punch.
Dirk throws a front kick aimed at Reijiro's knee but Reijiro avoids it well.
Reijiro scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

and Reijiro counters with a three punch combo that has Dirk backing up. Dirk nods at Reijiro to acknowledge the strikes.

It looks like Dirk has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Reijiro walks right into a perfectly timed right hook and goes down hard! He's out cold! The ref cradles Reijiro limp body while Dirk jumps on to the cage and waves to the roaring crowd. Wow that was just a brutal knockout!

Danny Dirk tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.

It looks like Hodge might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That was a close round but I would say that Juan Alro will probably get the nod.

Hodge is taking a breather. Alro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Hodge is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Still in half guard, Hodge seems content to control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Slade Hodge will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Alro connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Hodge momentarily.

Hodge fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Alro sprawls well initially but Hodge persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Alro wants to stand back up but Hodge manages to pass into side control.

Hodge is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Alro is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Alro is looking for a sweep.
Hodge wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alro keeps working.
Hodge might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Alro haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hodge remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
The adventures of Hodge the control monster continue. Boring.
