 The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vic Veritas bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Nick Veritas struggling a bit here. Vic Veritas trying to control the action but Nick Veritas is working from the bottom. Nick Veritas is looking to regain half guard here but Vic Veritas keeps moving and retains side control. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Vic Veritas wants to control but Nick Veritas is keeping him busy. Vic Veritas wants to stand but Nick Veritas is controlling his arm.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Vic Veritas is looking to take a break and control but Nick Veritas is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vic Veritas swings around for an armbar but Nick Veritas sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Vic Veritas's guard. Nick Veritas is looking to stand up but Vic Veritas won't let him. Vic Veritas keeping moving, preventing Nick Veritas from controlling successfully. Vic Veritas has his hands on Nick Veritas's head, controlling the position. Nick Veritas wants to control from the top but Vic Veritas keeps moving.

God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Vic Veritas is trying to get back to full guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Nick Veritas is trying to control. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hany Mukhtar! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and David Schapiro.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mukhtar shoots in but no luck this time. Downs half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Downs scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Mukhtar is looking to reverse the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Downs tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Mukhtar is looking to regain half guard here but Downs keeps moving and retains side control. Downs knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mukhtar on the ground. Mukhtar sneaks back into half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Downs is working for a kimura but Mukhtar is defending it quite comfortably.
Downs is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mukhtar sees it coming and defends easily. Mukhtar is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Downs trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mukhtar's guard. Mukhtar lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mukhtar drops back looking for a leg! Downs is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Downs manages to kick Mukhtar off! Mukhtar jumps back into Downs's guard.
Downs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mukhtar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Downs has his foot on Mukhtar's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mukhtar works his way back into a safe position though.
Downs is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mukhtar defends well.

Mukhtar stands and steps away. Downs gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Downs stuffs the takedown.
Mukhtar moves into range and clinches up with Downs. Both fighters working to control the clinch. Mukhtar is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Downs tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Mukhtar just stands there and leans against the cage. Mukhtar is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Downs gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Malakai Downs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hany Mukhtar. Mukhtar fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mukhtar looking to slow down the pace here. Downs content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Everett is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Bowers knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Everett goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Bowers has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Everett but great work by Bowers.
Bowers decides to stand back up. Bowers with a jab. Bowers lands an uppercut out of nowhere! Everett falls backwards - clearly groggy! Bowers dives in and finishes the fight with more strikes for a TKO finish!

Justice closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Justice wants to control but Hill is keeping him busy.
