Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Davin Irwin (ranked 2782 p4p, 26066 weight class) and Ryuhei Sawamura (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Davin Irwin has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Davin Irwin seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Davin Irwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryuhei Sawamura! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Irwin tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sawamura sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Irwin somewhat. Irwin has a takedown stuffed. Sawamura throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Irwin seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance. Sawamura throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Irwin fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Davin Irwin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sawamura jabs Irwin to the body, keeping him at a distance. Ryuhei Sawamura seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sawamura tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Irwin defends well and Sawamura ends up having to push Irwin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Sawamura scoring well with a low kick there.
Irwin shoots in but no luck this time.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Sawamura throws a leg kick but Irwin sees it coming and checks it nicely. Sawamura looking to land some kicks to the body here.

As Sawamura tries to get set, Irwin tries to push him back and clinch up but Sawamura manages to avoid the attempt.
Sawamura throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Irwin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sawamura is in Irwin's guard. Irwin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Irwin is looking for a triangle but Sawamura pushes his legs off easily.
Sawamura is fighting to break Irwin's control of his arms but Irwin is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Irwin controlling Sawamura's posture. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sawamura accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Irwin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Irwin is controlling Sawamura's posture. Sawamura must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Sawamura wants to stand but Irwin is controlling his posture from full guard. Sawamura throws a big right hand that misses. Sawamura trying to stand up but can't free himself from Irwin's guard. Irwin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sawamura is one step ahead there. Sawamura would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sawamura working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Irwin dives in for a single leg takedown but Sawamura sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Sawamura is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Irwin pulls him back up using the underhooks. Irwin is trying to pull guard but Sawamura turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Sawamura throws an elbow that misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Irwin gets underhooks to prevent Sawamura's takedown attempt.
Irwin has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sawamura uses from the top position. Irwin is adopting a defensive guard. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ryuhei Sawamura dominated that round. That's time! Irwin's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Irwin tries to counter by clinching up but Sawamura breaks away and moves out of range. Sawamura pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Sawamura lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Irwin gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Sawamura counters with a head kick. Irwin leaves Sawamura with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Sawamura has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Sawamura fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Irwin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sawamura throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Irwin. Sawamura fails in his attempt to clinch. Irwin shoots in for a takedown but Sawamura shows good takedown defense.

Irwin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Sawamura wants to stand and escape but instead Irwin has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
 The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Irwin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Irwin pushing down on Sawamura's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sawamura is looking to control Irwin's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sawamura avoid being mounted?
Sawamura is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Irwin pulls his head out easily. Sawamura is trying to stand.
Sawamura is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Irwin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Irwin uses his free foot to push down on Sawamura's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Sawamura. Sawamura is just holding on here. Irwin manages to take his back.
Sawamura is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Irwin off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Irwin is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Irwin has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Sawamura! Can he survive? No! He's out! Irwin gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
