Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Theo Zervas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Devon Mata! The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, William Gold and Chris Edwards.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mata is defended easily by Zervas. Mata throws a leg kick
and Zervas counters with a shoot takedown. Mata fights it but they end up in guard. Mata keeping moving, preventing Zervas from controlling successfully. Zervas cracks Mata with a solid left hand. Zervas trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Zervas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Zervas with a nice head shot there.
Mata is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Zervas is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Zervas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mata is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mata has escaped and now he's on top!

Mata shoots in and bounces Zervas off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Zervas shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mata but Mata pushes him off and we're back to square one. Zervas closes the distance and clinches up with Mata, looking for a takedown. Zervas pushes Mata against the cage but Mata circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Mata takes a body punch but keeps moving. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mata throws a nice looking combination but Zervas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Zervas closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mata's guard. Zervas is breathing heavily. Mata is trying to control the position but Zervas postures up.
Zervas drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mata dives on top into guard.

Zervas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Mata circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Theo Zervas. That's going to take a lot out of him. Zervas shoots in but Mata avoids the takedown attempt easily. Mata is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Mata fails in his attempt to clinch. Zervas half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Mata is looking to land body kicks. Mata leaves Zervas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Theo Zervas dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.
Mata lands a nice hook to Zervas's body. Zervas takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Mata shoots in looking for a takedown. Zervas tries to sprawl out of it but Mata keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zervas manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mata has a takedown stuffed. Zervas tries to counter with a takedown but Mata is quick to defend against it. Mata stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mata wants it to stay on the feet. Mata is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Mata will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Theo Zervas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devon Mata. Zervas throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mata's waist but Mata gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Zervas off to one side.
Zervas forces Mata back against the cage and clinches. Zervas gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Mata.

Zervas has Mata pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Zervas pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Mata tumbling to the mat - Zervas dives into Mata's guard.
Mata has his feet on Zervas's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Zervas shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mata defends it nicely. Mata displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Zervas circles away from the clinch attempt.

 That's two minutes gone in the round. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mata tries to roll over but Zervas keeps him under control. Zervas prevents Mata from standing back up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mata wants to sweep but no luck. Zervas scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Zervas postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That was a close second round but I would say that Theo Zervas will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!
