A near capacity crowd was on hand last week as the MKFC presented TNT 22 live from Hayashis Lounge. Four weight classes were showcased this night with ten bouts featuring the “Big Bears”, that’s right the super heavies, including our main event of the night. A respectable rating of 97.90 (decent by TNT standards) plummeted the MKFC out of the top 20 as they continue to yo-yo in and out of the top rankings week over week. Billy Dean (9-4) needed less than a minute to erase the memory of his last visit to the MKFC cage, his loss to champion Kaban Demidov. That five round war showed the fans that Dean could go the distance and was not just a one dimensional striker. Unfortunately for Thurston gimmie some (12-6), Dean came out aggressively throwing and had Some immediately on his heels. A left right combo snapped Some’s head back early and opened up a gash above his left eye. Dean kepts swinging and after Some ducked under a windmilling hook, Dean followed with a head kick that dropped Some unto his back. Dean pounced and pounded Some out until the stoppage at :58 of the first. Dean was awarded KO of the Night, the 5th such time he has claimed this honor. Featherweight Yoshihiro Takaya (11-3) won for the 4th time (out of 5 bouts) in the MKFC when he stopped MKFC newcomer, and former SFL champion Mini Bard (9-4) in the second round. Bard cut and rocked Takaya early, scoring a knockdown but then failing to get anything done as Takaya hung on until he regained his senses. After the ref stood the two men back up, Takaya was more cautious but his strikes landed and eventually he scored a takedown of his own, into control to arguably steal back the round. Not taking any chances with Bard’s power, Takaya came out winging in the second, quickly opening a cut on Bards eyebrow. A follow up jab either moved blood to he eye or caught a thumb in there as Bard was immediately in trouble. Takaya unleashed the fury until the referee called a stop at :25 seconds as Bard was defenseless. George Hampton (7-3) made a triumphant MKFC debut after a solid start to his career in the ACME affiliated SFL in Holland (now inactive). Hampton came from behind on the cards against Johnnie Walker (3-3) who took the first round with takedowns and control. A hard fought second round could have gone for either bantam but with Hampton being more active he got the nod. Round three was also close as both men were fatigued but Hampton was slightly busier and gets the decision. Fedor Martinsson (3-0) knocked out his third straight opponent in the MKFC lightweight division as he continues his ascent up the rankings. Billy Johnsons (2-5) MKFC career ended to a Martinsson uppercut, the finish coming in just :38 seconds. Martinsson’s management has requested tougher competition; expect challenges ahead for the Gothenberger! Lightweight Leopold Raskalnikov (8-9) thrashed Kitsune Tsuki (2-5) for the duration of their fifteen minute battle. Raskalnikov thwarted 17 takedown attempts while landing three of his own – all the while punishing the legs and body of his opponent with kicks. Raskalnikov found himself having to ward off too many submission attempts on the mat, and as he controlled every aspect of this fight went back to kicking at a distance and landing damaging shots in the clinch. Lopsided devastation the likes of which no one really wants to witness. Sami Vasara (3-1) won his second straight by TKO, this time stopping Adrian Sidorov (6-2) in the second round. Sidorov came out swinging and cut Vasara early with a three punch combo. At the two minute mark a perfect cross drew blood on Sidorov as well as the two wounded warriors continued battling on. Vasara increased the tempo – landing back to back combos in the fourth minute that stunned Sidorov badly, but he was able to hang on to round two. A tentative Sidorov found himself fighting defensively in the second, and backpeddling is usually not the way a fight is won. A body blow followed by an uppercut deposited Sidorov to the mat and Vasara beckoned him back to his feet. Sidorov took the chance to glance at the clock and Vasara dropped him again, this time mounting and finishing the fight with brutal punches and elbows. Huge win for Vasara and worthy of Fight of the Night honors for both men! MKFC newcomer Grieg Smith (6-5) found out pretty quickly that the MKFC superheavyweight division is no joke. Smith was cut by a cross thrown by Serg Ramirez (8-4) seconds into the second minute and like a bee to honey, Ramirez’s fists just kept returning to the wound. A jab opened the wound further, a cross made Smith look like a stab victim, and another jab opened up the floodgates. The ringside doctor was brought in at 3:05 of the first and called an end to the bout – a TKO victory for Ramirez. Ramirez dripping in his opponent’s blood looked like Carrie from the classic horror picture, if of course Carrie was a fat Hispanic guy … Everaldo Manhoef (11-6-1) may have entered Thursday’s fight with more experience, more rounds, and more training, but Denali Fili (8-3) had the one punch, and when it landed this superheavyweight fight ended. Fili fought a strange fight, getting the clinch and releasing it, and with each release he would look for the punch. One shot opened up a cut on Manhoefs hairline. Clinch, release, throw, clinch. Curious fight style that totally disrupted Manhoef’s attack. A jab followed by a straight sent Manhoef backwards and Fili smelt the finish. Fili let loose with a combo that knocked Manhoef out on his feet and the referee had to hold Fili back before he delivered more damage. Brutal end! Vladimir Vodkakov (2-3) made the mistake of taking down a superior grappler in his bout with superheavyweight Andrew Brooks (5-4). Brooks quickly got the sweep and then thought of nothing but the finish. It took six sub attempts but Brooks found success with an arm triangle at 3:04. When you play into your opponents strengths – expect to get burned. The Submission of the Night came just slightly over a minute into the night. Jurgen Voller (3-1), cut John Ewert (2-3) early and then knocked him down with a big right hand. Voller dove in, landing in Ewert’s guard, but Ewert was stunned, and Voller wanted it too badly. An overzealous Voller found himself swept and he immediately pulled in tight and went for the guillotine when Ewert was slow to react. Ewert tapped at 1:05, and Voller comes away with some added cash to his pay. Fun night next week we have a huge event planned – don’t miss it. This weekes $1000 cash winner was Andre Maia for picking 10/10 of the winners on this card – congrats!
