I would like to thank Jack London for a great fight. I knew I had to keep trying to get that submission on the ground, luckily the old trusted Armbar was there. Thanks Paul Dengel and crew for making the event, and booking the fight.

In every fight Lars Thunstrom has been in, he's been the underdog. Yet he still remains undefeated. A little under two hours left right now. Lets get it on!

Beat reporter Marc Bradford submitted this preview ... this looks like a barnburner! There will be no turkey’s present in the Kazan Sambo Center this Thursday, as MKFC presents the second Thanksgiving Night Throwdown. It’s quite an interesting card, and did I mention there are three title fights? Looking to make his first middleweight title defense, newly crowned champion Leroy Bater, (15-5) will have his hands full. Bater made quick work of his previous opponent to capture the title, but Yago Gutierrez (8-2) knows first hand just how difficult it is to defend that title. “Guti” has grinded out four straight decision victories against solid competition, but the one who calls himself “The Master” has been on a tear of his own. He hasn’t seen the second round in his last five fights. I look for both men to impose their will early with “Guti” trying to take this one to the mat where he can use is solid ground and pound or jiu-jitsu. Bater is no slouch on the mat himself, but his last few fights haven’t made it to the ground. Whoever imposes their will first should win this fight. Interesting “Guti” factoid. Last time a fight of his didn’t go the distance? He won the middleweight title. This won’t be the first time MKFC Superheavyweight Champion Kaban Demidov (11-2) has faced off with Markov “Beastmode” Jankovic (13-5). The two met back in July at The Big Show in a fight that didn’t last two minutes. Demidov made short work of Jankovic the first time, utilizing the clinch with brutal results. Jankovic has had three straight knockout victories since then and will definitely not want to squander another chance at MKFC gold. Demidov is looking to make his fourth consecutive title defense. Will he be able to utilize his superior Muay Thai again, or has “Beastmode” found a way to neutralize it? It looks like the next stop on the Cox Tour is St. Pete. Eaton Cox (11-4) has been traveling the globe as of late, from Brazil to Hawaii, Sydney and then Tokyo it’s now time for Russia. His tour guide for this stop will be Miyoshi Kazuhide (9-3) fresh off a heartbreaking loss against Jetset Niemi. Both of these welterweights definitely have something to prove. A win for “Cheru Sonen” will keep him in the title hunt, and a win for Cox will get him one step closer to whatever his eventual goal is. World domination? This one is a true tossup. Cox is a little more experienced and that may be the difference here. Speaking of welterweights, the MKFC Welterweight Title is on the line. Reigning 170 pound champ Jetset Niemi (10-2) will put it all on the line against the very dangerous Jack “The Beast” Walker. Walker will definitely have the reach advantage, being quite a few inches taller, but in terms of standup skills this one is pretty even. Look for Walker to take this one to the mat where he’ll have the advantage. But even if he gets Jetset down, he’ll have to keep him there. That part is far easier said than done. Niemi didn’t become the champion by luck. “The Beast” will have to earn this one if he’s going to take it, and that’s not a guarantee. Chingiz “Khan” Akayev (7-0-2) is still searching for his first victory in the MKFC. He’s had two disappointing draws in his last outings, but he displayed a ton of resilience in his last fight, coming back from two 10-9 rounds to win the third 10-8. He’ll need every bit of that resilience against Kristow “jetski” Zedski (8-2). Zedski’s last two fights have lasted a combined 20 seconds. In other words, he hits hard, very hard. Akayev has an impressive resume of submission victories, and it will be no surprise to anyone if he attempts to do that in this fight. That’s not to say he doesn’t have impressive standup, as he is more than capable of standing and banging with Zedski. Either way, I don’t see a third consecutive draw for “Khan” here. It will either be “Khan” going lights out, or Zedski tapping out. Want my advice? Don’t blink. More middleweight action as undefeated Lars “Fat Belly” Thunstrom (6-0) goes up against Jack “The Dog” London (8-3). “Fat Belly” won his MKFC debut in impressive fashion, and he will look to build on that. London will look to build off his last victory and get back into title contention. He has superior wrestling so I give him the edge on the ground, but just barely. He needs to be very careful if he decides to take this to the ground, Thunstrom has an excellent submission game. It will be hard for each one to take the other out of their comfort zone. “The Phoenix” Eddie Guerrero (10-5) used to be quite the knockout artist before becoming a knockout victim in his last two bouts. He will definitely look to test the jaw of Andrey Omoh (8-8) as both heavyweights look to get back to their winning ways. Both men like to strike, and I don’t expect that to change here. Can “The Phoenix” rise? Or will “The Jaw” stay intact? This one might be quick. Two bright young welterweights will make their MKFC debut as Mark “Fat Head” Giel (6-3) and “The Anchor” Brent Huth face off. On paper, Huth appears to have an edge, especially on the ground, so Giel will probably try and keep this one standing. He’s a solid striker and if these two stand and bang, anything could happen. In the featherweight division, Andrei Zhelyabov (6-2) will look to win his third consecutive fight. Standing in his way is former champion Jon Jonsson (8-2). This is Jonsson’s first fight back since losing the belt. Hopefully he has his eye on the current prize, which isn’t the title, but a very dangerous striker in Zhelyabov. Five of his six victories have been KO or TKO’s. On the ground, it’s anyone’s game, but in the past these guys have preferred to stand. Jonsson is a solid striker himself, and he’ll probably feel comfortable on the feet. This one may be about who lands first, who lands hardest, or just who lands the most. Two very big, very dangerous super-heavyweights will introduce themselves in St. Pete. Marty “The Chosen One” Handcock (2-0) will look to use his size advantage to dominate Curtis “That Death” Jones (6-2). Marty has the potential to go very far in the division. I cringed during his last fight. He landed 139 of 145 strikes from the clinch. 87 of those were knees to the head. He’s in a different league now though. Curtis Jones is a more experienced fighter, a very good striker and if he gets this one on the ground it could be a rough night for “The Chosen One.” Who exactly “chose” him anyway? This is a very interesting card from top to bottom. Three title fights, the Cox World Tour, a phoenix rising from the ashes, former champions attempt to return to glory, and new stars trying to break into already very stacked divisions. Lots of stories here folks! It’s just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving unless there’s a fight!
