PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Aliosa Saltykov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ahwal Mahtulak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Ahwal Mahtulak was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aliosa Saltykov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ahwal Mahtulak!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Sergei Dronov and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mahtulak bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Saltykov is looking to reverse the position.
Saltykov prevents Mahtulak from improving position.

Mahtulak stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Mahtulak clinches.
Saltykov swings wildly with an uppercut but Mahtulak uses good head movement to avoid it.

Mahtulak manages to pull guard.

Saltykov thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Saltykov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Saltykov throws a big right hand that misses.
Mahtulak is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Saltykov has gone for a leg lock! Mahtulak slips out almost immediately though and dives into Saltykov's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mahtulak slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Saltykov lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Mahtulak!

Saltykov drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Mahtulak gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Saltykov has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mahtulak avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Saltykov drops back looking for a leg! Mahtulak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Mahtulak manages to kick Saltykov off! Saltykov jumps back into Mahtulak's guard.

Mahtulak is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Saltykov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Saltykov for a finish.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Saltykov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Saltykov showed some decent athleticism there.
Saltykov seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Saltykov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mahtulak defends it well.

Saltykov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mahtulak is just riding it out for now. Saltykov eventually gives up the hold.
Saltykov wants to free his trapped foot but Mahtulak is holding on for dear life with his legs.

I would just about give that final round to Ahwal Mahtulak.
Well Mahtulak has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
