Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hatfield McCoy! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Luck! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Darius Henderson and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCoy stalks Luck and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Luck's face. Luck staggers backwards, shaken.
It looks like Mark Luck has been cut. Luck looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! McCoy closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Luck did well to prevent McCoy getting side control. McCoy performing his best blanket impression for a moment. McCoy is looking to advance position but Luck won't allow it. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McCoy in particular looking to stall. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
That's one minute gone in the round. McCoy has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Luck takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming. McCoy closes the distance and pushes Luck back into the cage. Luck told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight. McCoy is struggling to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Luck takes an elbow to the forehead.
Luck is rocked! Luck looking for a takedown. Luck is still on wobbly legs! Can McCoy finish him? McCoy breaks the clinch.
Luck looks to clinch and McCoy counters with a stiff jab, followed by a cross and an uppercut! That's too much punishment for Luck to take - he tumbles to the canvas, blood pouring from his nose, barely conscious. That's the end of the fight! Great knockout by McCoy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Hatfield McCoy! Our winner, Hatfield McCoy, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
