PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eddie Tabera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Tabera!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis blocks the body kick.
Tabera tries for a takedown but Lewis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Tabera throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Lewis sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Tabera throws a head kick but Lewis moves out of range.
Tabera fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Tabera misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Tabera throws a sloppy head kick and Lewis moves out of range easily.
Tabera tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Tabera throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lewis avoids the head kick by Tabera.
Tabera thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Lewis if he has to take too many more of those.

Tabera fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Lewis, pushing him back against the cage.
Lewis tries for a takedown. No joy.

Tabera breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tabera throws a head kick but Lewis moves out of range.
Tabera throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Tabera looks gassed!
Lewis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lewis tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Tabera throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Tabera looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Lewis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lewis showed some decent athleticism there.

Tabera is defending against the submission attempts here by Lewis.

Lewis looks to land a strike but Tabera avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

Lewis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Tabera keeping moving, preventing Lewis from controlling successfully.
Tabera is trying to control the position but Lewis postures up.
Lewis missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Lewis trying to control the position from guard on top but Tabera is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Tabera can't keep his opponent in guard - Lewis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Lewis is looking for a kimura but Tabera is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lewis to get the leverage.
Lewis not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lewis wants to work for an arm triangle but Tabera is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Lewis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Tabera defends it well.
Tabera is trying to stand up here but Lewis is controlling him well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Lewis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tabera sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Tabera is trying to control but can't.
Tabera avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lewis.

Tabera is defending against the submission attempts here by Lewis.
Tabera wants to control but Lewis is keeping busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Lewis dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Tabera throws a head kick that Lewis semi-blocks.
Tabera tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lewis avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Lewis avoids the head kick by Tabera.

Lewis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Tabera looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lewis goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Tabera has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Lewis but great work by Tabera.
Tabera remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Lewis throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Tabera has control of an arm but Lewis manages to advance to Tabera's back!
Lewis breaks Tabera's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Lewis cracks Tabera with a solid left hand.
Lewis wants to control from the top but Tabera keeps moving.

Lewis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lewis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Lewis throws a strike but Tabera rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Lewis throws his legs up looking for a submission but Tabera uses it to pass to side control.

Lewis is trying to work for a sweep but Tabera has mounted him!
Lewis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lewis is trying desperately to improve position.

Tabera stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Tabera instigates a clinch.

Tabera jumps guard.
Lewis trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Lewis is looking to work some ground and pound but Tabera has wrist control.

Lewis has gone for a leg lock! Tabera slips out almost immediately though and dives into Lewis's guard.

Lewis working for a triangle but Tabera defends it easily.
Lewis has a closed guard, preventing Tabera from standing up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tabera trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Lewis striking off his back but it's not causing Tabera any problems.
Lewis is adopting a defensive guard.

Tabera avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Tabera lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Tabera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!

Lewis seems to be working for a kimura but Tabera defends the submission attempt.
Tabera is not content to let Lewis control the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lewis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Tabera looks like he's trying to stand up.
Lewis lands with a punch from half guard.
Lewis thows a huge punch but Tabera dodges it nicely.

Lewis is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Tabera doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Lewis.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Tabera is not content to let Lewis control the position.
Lewis throws a strike but Tabera avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Lewis is pushing down on Tabera's leg trying to pass to half guard. Tabera is fighting to maintain full guard but Lewis has managed to sneak the leg through.
Lewis throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ground and pound from Lewis.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lewis is looking to take a break and control but Tabera is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Lewis is working for a submission of some sort.
Tabera wants to get back to his feet.

Lewis is looking for a kimura here.

Lewis seems to be working for a kimura but Tabera defends the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Lewis prevents Tabera from standing back up.
Lewis throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lewis is looking for a kimura but Tabera is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Lewis to get the leverage.
Mike Lewis overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Tabera tries to kick Lewis off but Lewis keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Lewis stalling.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Lewis showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Lewis has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
