Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Gilchrist (ranked 1858 p4p, 195 weight class) and Preston Patterson (ranked 6098 p4p, 402 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sonny Gilchrist!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Preston Patterson!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Yves DeLean and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gilchrist has taken the fight to the clinch.

Gilchrist turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Gilchrist manages to end up in side control.
Patterson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gilchrist wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Patterson told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Patterson is not content to let Gilchrist control the position.
Patterson is looking to regain half guard here but Gilchrist keeps moving and retains side control.

Gilchrist is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Patterson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
We've been hearing good reports from Gilchrist's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Patterson tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gilchrist wants to pass the guard but Patterson is keeping the position.

Gilchrist postures up.
Patterson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Gilchrist drops back looking for a leg! Patterson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Patterson manages to kick Gilchrist off! Gilchrist jumps back into Patterson's guard.

Gilchrist thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Patterson is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Patterson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Gilchrist's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Patterson passes into half guard.

Gilchrist looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Gilchrist won't allow Patterson to pass to mount.

Patterson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Gilchrist defend it? Patterson steps over the head and cranks it - Gilchrist is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Patterson!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Preston Patterson!
Preston Patterson looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'I know it's a shame for the 12th ranked fighter in the class to beat the 2nd ranked fighter and moves on to fight for the belt. But greatness and preparation speaks louder than any rankings could. 18 years old proving I belong in this organization every fight. '.
