Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Tokyo Rebel! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuma Akiyama! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! This fight brought to you by 5M nutrition - it's mmmmm tasty. Nice jab by Rebel. Akiyama tries for a takedown but Rebel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Rebel works Akiyama's body with a nice hook. Rebel defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Akiyama. Rebel connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Rebel takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Rebel lands a slapping body shot.
Rebel connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Akiyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Tokyo Rebel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazuma Akiyama. Akiyama feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Akiyama slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Rebel is trying to buck Akiyama off. Rebel on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rebel tries to get out of the position. Rebel takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Rebel tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Akiyama wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Akiyama landing strikes. Akiyama has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Akiyama working the ground and pound but Rebel is defending the strikes. Check out the look on Akiyama's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Akiyama connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Rebel some visible discomfort.
That's one minute gone in the round. Akiyama cracks Rebel with an elbow. That is naaassty. Akiyama tries for a kimura but Rebel is defending well. Rebel taking punishment in the form of punches.
Rebel is rocked! Akiyama has hold of Rebel's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Rebel seems comfortable defending it but Akiyama has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Rebel is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Rebel is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Akiyama couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Kazuma Akiyama! Kazuma Akiyama spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
