PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spencer Rubenstein (ranked 681 p4p, 95 weight class) and Jesse Kilpatrick (ranked 548 p4p, 77 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jesse Kilpatrick was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Spencer Rubenstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jesse Kilpatrick!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ben Watson and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kilpatrick missing with a left hand there. Rubenstein was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

It looks like Jesse Kilpatrick has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kilpatrick catches Rubenstein with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rubenstein uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kilpatrick.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kilpatrick has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kilpatrick throws a lazy right hand but Rubenstein sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rubenstein takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Kilpatrick looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Rubenstein manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Kilpatrick keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rubenstein creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
