Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dale Steyn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Wackson ! The judges for this bout are William Peck, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Steyn gets caught flat footed, as Wackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Steyn is looking for a triangle but Wackson pushes his legs off easily.
Wackson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Steyn utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Steyn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wackson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wackson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Wackson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Steyn works some decent striking defense from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Steyn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Wackson . Wackson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Steyn is trying to keep Wackson in close.
Steyn is looking for a triangle but Wackson pushes his legs off easily.
Steyn not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wackson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Steyn dips to his left and cracks Wackson with an uppercut! Wackson throws a low kick but it's checked well by Steyn. Steyn keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Wackson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Steyn thuds his right hand into Wackson 's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Steyn loads up on a big right hand but Wackson slips the punch. Wackson tries to clinch but Steyn moves out of range. Steyn circles away from the clinch attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wackson misses with a takedown attempt and Steyn counters with a nice double leg into guard. Dale Steyn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Wackson . Wackson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Steyn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Steyn engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Wackson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Steyn has picked Wackson up and slammed him! Wackson can't keep hold of the triangle and Steyn manages to pass to side control! Steyn working away. Steyn thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. This has been an exciting period of action! Steyn cracks Wackson with an elbow. That is naaassty.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wackson is trying to improve his position. Wackson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Steyn in side control lands a decent elbow. Wackson is looking to regain half guard here but Steyn keeps moving and retains side control. Wackson looks to move to half guard but instead Steyn has passed into mount! Damn! Steyn landing shots from mount. Wackson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Steyn wants to control the pace but Wackson is squirming around nicely. Steyn working away from the top, dropping strikes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Steyn sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Steyn is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Wackson can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Steyn putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Steyn unloading with bombs!
Wackson is rocked! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wackson takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Steyn's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dale Steyn! A relieved looking Dale Steyn thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. In defeat, Michael Wackson stepped up to the mic, saying 'Didn't do how I wanted it too, but I knew it was gonna be a tough fight, that's why I wanted it, anyways on the next kangaroo fight, I'm not cactus yet! '.
