PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mark Steiner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Pinto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Steiner might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Atreyu- Doomsday. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Steiner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Pinto!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Steiner closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Pinto trying to control here.

Steiner is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pinto defends it well.
Pinto trying to hold on to Steiner's head to control him but Steiner postures up.
Pinto won't allow Steiner to pass to mount.
Steiner is thwarting Pinto's attempts to control the position.
Steiner is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Pinto trying to control but Steiner postures up.

Steiner is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Steiner takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Steiner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Steiner is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Steiner is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pinto sees it coming and defends easily.
Pinto wants to control but Steiner is keeping busy.
Pinto is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Steiner scores with a couple of nice shots.

Steiner is looking for a kimura here.
Steiner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pinto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Pinto wants to control but Steiner is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Pinto is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Steiner's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Steiner's back!
Pinto is looking to control Steiner but Steiner is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Pinto keeps control of the position as Steiner tries to break free.
Pinto is trying to stick to Steiner's back but Steiner is turning into Pinto. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Pinto's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Steiner.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Steiner looking to pass the guard.
Pinto is trying to keep Steiner in close.

Steiner is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Pinto is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Pinto has escaped and now he's on top!
Steiner has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Pinto trying to control but Steiner is working from the bottom.

Steiner working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pinto doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pinto manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Steiner has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Pinto is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Steiner.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Steiner is breathing heavily.
Steiner misses with a strike from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Steiner dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Pinto takes the fight into the clinch.
Steiner jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pinto walks away with a smile on his face. Steiner gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Pinto scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Steiner misses with some strikes from the bottom.
The fighters are battling for position here. Steiner manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Pinto avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Steiner is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Pinto has his hands clasped together but Steiner extends an breaks Pinto's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Steiner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mark Steiner!
