PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bart Cubbedge (ranked 1429 p4p, 164 weight class) and Stanley Kubrick (ranked 1669 p4p, 191 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bart Cubbedge !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Stanley Kubrick!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cubbedge closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cubbedge lands in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kubrick wants to get back to his feet but Cubbedge is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Kubrick keeping moving, preventing Cubbedge from controlling successfully.
Kubrick is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kubrick seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cubbedge stops Kubrick from standing up.

Kubrick is pulling down on Cubbedge 's head to control his posture.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kubrick thows a left - swing and a miss!
Cubbedge shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kubrick sprawls well. Kubrick wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cubbedge gets slowly back to his feet.

Kubrick takes the fight into the clinch.
Kubrick has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Kubrick's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Cubbedge looking for a takedown.
Cubbedge looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Cubbedge tightens his grip and picks Kubrick up, before dumping him to the ground. Kubrick manages to land in guard.
Kubrick is pulling down on Cubbedge 's head to control his posture.
Cubbedge stops Kubrick from standing up.

Cubbedge trying to control the action but Kubrick is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kubrick sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kubrick is trying to get back to full guard.
Cubbedge prevents Kubrick from standing back up.
Cubbedge seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kubrick does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cubbedge is taking a breather. Kubrick says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Kubrick tries to kick Cubbedge off but Cubbedge keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Cubbedge trying to control from half guard but Kubrick is working away.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kubrick misses with a few strikes there.
Cubbedge leaves Kubrick with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Kubrick will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Kubrick has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Cubbedge is landing a low percentage of strikes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bart Cubbedge . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cubbedge dips to his left and cracks Kubrick with an uppercut!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cubbedge moves into the clinch.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bart Cubbedge will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Cubbedge tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kubrick sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Cubbedge somewhat.
Kubrick uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cubbedge .
Kubrick is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Cubbedge with a body shot.
Cubbedge looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kubrick is fending him off so far but Cubbedge persists. Nope, Kubrick circles away and we're back to standing.
Cubbedge wants to clinch up but Kubrick keeps it at a distance.
Cubbedge shoots in and drives through. Kubrick sprawls well.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bart Cubbedge . That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cubbedge changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kubrick looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bart Cubbedge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Cubbedge decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Cubbedge throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Kubrick's waist but Kubrick gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Cubbedge off to one side.
Kubrick looks like he wants to counter punch here.

Cubbedge scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Kubrick manages to mount him!

Oh Cubbedge is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Oooooh, big shot lands for Kubrick! Cubbedge is hurt baaadly! Kubrick is firing away with more strikes - Cubbedge is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Stanley Kubrick!
During a confident post fight interview, Stanley Kubrick thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
