Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Louis Edwards! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hiriwa Piwari! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edwards throws a series of punches but Piwari avoids them all with ease. Piwari misses with a head kick.
Edwards moves into the clinch. A frustrated look appears on Piwari's face as he tries to break the clinch. Piwari breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Edwards avoids the head kick by Piwari.
Piwari throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Edwards's head. Piwari throws a sloppy head kick and Edwards counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Edwards in particular looking to stall. Edwards decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Piwari throws a nice looking combination but Edwards bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Piwari throws a head kick that Edwards semi-blocks.
Edwards looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Edwards not doing much here.
That's one minute gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Piwari pushes Edwards off looking to stand but Edwards dives back in and keeps control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards trying to control the pace. Piwari is trying to stand.
Edwards content to control rather than advance. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Piwari is trying to stand up here but Edwards is controlling him well.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Edwards moves into range and clinches up with Piwari. Piwari wants to break free but Edwards has control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Edwards pressing his opponent against the cage. Piwari being controlled against the cage. Edwards has Piwari pressed against the cage, preventing Piwari from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Edwards drops down looking for an ankle pick but Piwari pulls his leg out and moves away.
Piwari tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. As Piwari tries to get set, Edwards tries to push him back and clinch up but Piwari manages to avoid the attempt. Hiriwa Piwari is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Piwari throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Edwards's head. Piwari circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Edwards drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Piwari follows Edwards to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
